NEXT MISSION:
CELEBRATE SPRING
Spring has finally sprung! Officially, anyway.
We still may see some more flurries ahead of
us, but why not celebrate the warmer
temperatures that we, as optimists, hope to see
soon. Hence your mission this week, which is
to enjoy something delicious as you celebrate
the spring season with friends and family.
We’re especially eager to see your entertaining
ideas — is there a killer appetizer or cocktail
you like to serve at this time of year? Whether
you’re taking part in a backyard barbecue,
enjoying an ice cream or praying for patio
season, we’re sure your fellow Gastroposters
will want to see how you enjoy great food and
drinks while taking in the spring air.

Champion of the eat local movement in Canada
and renowned chef-farmer Michael Stadtländer
was recently named the 2015 Chef in Residence
at NAIT. His 100-acre farm is home to Eigensinn
Farm, which has been ranked one of the top 10
restaurants in the world. Supporting and eating
local is one of his passions, and he shared the
importance of supporting local agriculture with
NAIT Culinary students and with Gastropost.
“Try to locate local farmers at the market or
through a CSA. You can make relationships with
the farmers where you get your food.” Michael
has lots of open space for his pigs and chickens
to run free. But gardening is important too and
he encourages you to try your hand at it even if
you don’t have your own farm. “There are lots
of little container vegetables like spinach or
arugula. It’s always amazing what you can grow
in a small space.”
If you’re enjoying local ingredients in your
#gastropost this week, make sure to include
the #tasteab tag for an extra chance to be in
the paper!
