JOB POSTING – February 13, 2015 Sole Responsibility Instructor (1 Course Instructor) Position for Summer 2015 (July to August 2015) GGR 321 H1S: Aboriginal People and Environmental Issues in Canada Course Description: Indigenous views of environment, resource management and governance from pre-European contact times through to the present will be explored. Emphasis will be placed on the emerging role of Indigenous peoples in environmental and resource management in Canada. Topics to be covered include: history of Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal relations, Aboriginal and treaty rights, Aboriginal world view and philosophy, traditional knowledge, Aboriginal environmental ethics and principles and current environmental issues confronting Indigenous peoples in Canada. Estimate of the course enrolment: 70 Estimate of TA Support: 60 hours (Final TA hours will be based on enrolment figures) Class Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:00pm - 2:30pm Sessional dates of appointment: July 1st – August 31st, 2015 Salary: Course Instructor (Half Course): = $7,114.65 (including vacation pay) Qualifications: Requirements: A PhD or a PhD in progress in Geography or Planning; and a suitable background knowledge or related relevant background. Completion of a professional development course on teaching preferred. Knowledge of historical and contemporary Aboriginal (First Nations, Metris and Inuit) environmental and resource management challenges is required. Knowledge of the emerging roles of Aboriginal Peoples in environmental governance in Canada through self-government, land claims, and exercise of Aboriginal and treaty rights. Knowledge and experience with Aboriginal worldviews, knowledge systems/science, philosophies, traditions, values is an asset. Brief description of duties: Instructors will lecture on themes of the course; and prepare course outline, syllabi and lectures; develop and administer grading, course assignments, tests and exams; mark and invigilate exams; hold regular office hours; and supervise teaching assistants.
