www.womena.dk contact@womena.dk Interested in getting hands-‐on research and project management experience? Do you have interest in international reproductive health research? Then you might be who we are looking for. WoMena is a young organisation of Danish Public Health, International Development and Sociology professionals passionate about addressing social issues in Africa related to gender, reproductive health and menstrual hygiene management. We have noted that many effective solutions never get implemented due to research-‐policy gaps and other issues. To address this, we are working on promoting the use of evidence-‐based, effective reproductive health technologies and solutions through research, advocacy and project implementation and are currently running research and implementation projects in Uganda. WoMena is based in Denmark but will set up office in Uganda in mid-‐2015. Other WoMena members are based in Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Mozambique, Switzerland, Rwanda and South Sudan. We are looking for 1-‐2 interns/volunteers to support the implementation of an UNHCR commissioned research study on acceptability and preference of different menstrual hygiene management (MHM) methods in a refugee settlement in Uganda and/or to conduct a follow-‐up study of previously implemented MHM research projects carried out among rural schoolgirls and women in northern Uganda. As an intern with WoMena you will support the implementation of the study including, but not limited to: Piloting interview guides, carrying out qualitative interviews, analysing the findings and write up of findings as well as support with general logistics for the study. You will be partnered with Ugandan Public Health and/or medical students from our partner university institution in Uganda. The work will be led by a WoMena staff member with support from the WoMena team, while the intern/volunteer will have a high level of responsibility in terms of decision-‐ making and making things happen on the ground. WoMena is therefore looking for people that take a proactive approach to finding solutions and are able and willing to work independently with supervision by WoMena staff members. WoMena offers: • An opportunity to get hands-‐on research and project management experience with implementation/evaluation. • High level of responsibility and influence on the above. • Experience with collaboration with Ugandan university and international cooperation. • International network. Practical details: • 5-‐8 months internship with field work in Uganda from Sept 2015-‐Jan or April 2016 depending on funding and approval of the UNHCR commissioned research study • Interns are expected to cover their travel and living expenses while WoMena will cover all project-‐related expenses.
