Rationale for an adapted soil-based ESS
framework for RECARE
 RECARE wants to
 Assess various effects of soil threats and
remediation measures on ecosystem services;
 Use ecosystem services to identify measures with
local, national and European stakeholders
Disclaimer and Copyright: http://tinyurl.com/recare-disclaimer
 Thus, the ESS framework has to
 Reflect soil-specific contribution to ESS
 Distinguish changes in ESS due to soil management
and policies impacting on soil
 Be simple and robust for practical application

Regional Café Table Discussion Points
 Filling the framework with content from reality (based on
participants’ experiences): is the suggested framework
understandable, does it make sense, does it work?
Disclaimer and Copyright: http://tinyurl.com/recare-disclaimer
 What are methods to operationalize the framework (deliberative
approaches, monetary valuations, revealed preferences, etc.)
and what are their advantages and disadvantages?
 What are other comments to the framework, what is missing?
