may 2015 TIGC N e w s l e t t e r TIGC Homepage www.golffusion.com/tahoeinclinegolfclub Welcome to the TIGC 2015 Season We have a great season set up for this year. We are building upon our 2014 successes. Your Board has been hard at work over the winter. Our Rules Committee, led by Frank Shipman, has reviewed, revised and standardized the Rules and Formats. Golf Fusion has been updated to match these rules. We hope that there are no surprises. The rules cover things like who posts scores, how missing players are handled, and adjustments for mixed tee boxes. The Rules Committee is also working with the Golf Staff to improve some of the markings on the course to simplify Rule interpretation. The Handicap Committee has also refined the rules on posting and other matters. We hope to continue with the high participation rates we experienced last year where we played twice as many rounds as the prior year. With more players, we are planning to have up to three flights (Gold, White, Combo) for many of our Majors. This will eliminate the need to use USGA Section 3-5 to adjust tees. For these tournaments, any player may request any tee, regardless of age or handicap. We hope that the long-hitters will play from the Combos and only the short-hitters play from the Golds. If there are at least four teams requesting a tee box, we will have a flight. If there are fewer than four teams, we will use USGA Section 3-5. You can find the Event Calendar for the Mid-Week and Major Tournaments elsewhere in this newsletter. We are also continuing the popular social events. We will be having lunch after six of the Mid-Week tournaments. We will host the Opening and Closing dinners at the Chateau. The Summer BBQ is planned for Aspen Grove. Dan Beadle President, TIGC Tahoe Incline Golf club Newsletter may 2015 From the TreasurerAs we head into the 2015 season there are several aspects of the club finances that may interest you. One year ago we had a fairly large carryover that the Board considered excessive. That excess was consumed by underwriting the cost of lunches and happy hours that were so popular with members. These social “add-ons” increased event participation considerably. Our operating philosophy for this year is that each of the 33 events planned will be self-supporting. Entry fees have been adjusted so that event revenues will pay the complete cost of providing that event. Costs include event prizes, staff services, lunch or happy hour and fees charged by Golf Fusion and E-Money. A small portion of the entry fees will be used to re-establish reasonable operating reserves. On April 1st, the club’s membership stood at 107 which is about 10 more than at the corresponding time last year. This bodes well for total membership as the event season gets underway in late May. When you enter an event it is preferable that you pay the entry fee on line by VISA or Master Card when you do the entry on Golf Fusion. This method of payment greatly simplifies the job of tracking event finances and who has paid and who still owes. This season we have enlisted Larry Fagan and Paul Covec to help the treasurer with specific segments of the financial task. Be sure that the club has received your event fee before the event entry closing date. Gene Brockman, Treasurer Getting Familiar with the TIGC Website. TIGC currently uses a software package called Golf Fusion for its web site. Here is a link to the TIGC website: www.golffusion.com/tahoeinclinegolfclub The website address is cumbersome to type because of its length so once you have it open on your computer, bookmark it or add it to your favorites. Some web browsers will allow you to drag the bookmark/favorite to your desktop. Then all you do is click the icon on the desktop to open the website. To learn how to use the website click on the “Newsletter” button on the left side of the TIGC home page. Scroll down until you see WEBSITE TUTORIAL. Click on it and you will be able go through a short explanation of how to navigate Golf Fusion and signup for events (Some screens may not be exactly as shown in the tutorial but are still functionally the same). Pay particular attention to signing up multiple players and/or guests. If you do sign up multiple layer or guests, and need to cancel yourself, this WILL NOT cancel the other players or your guests! You will need to contact the event Chairman/Sponsor or a website administrator to cancel other players or guests. Look also at the Web Tips. Browse around the website. You can’t break it. Gary Proscenko Tahoe Incline Golf club Newsletter may 2015 Let’s take a Walk around the Championship Course. Where are the TROUBLE SPOTS? I will do this in 3 parts; this will be the first segment and cover holes 1 through 6. HOLE #1: We have OUT of BOUNDS both left and right and it is possible that OB could come into play on any shot. The proper procedure is Stroke and Distance (replay from where you last played). Should that be from the Teeing Ground, you are permitted to Re-Tee from anywhere on the Teeing Ground. If it happened Through the Green (for instance on your second shot) you must Drop a ball as near as possible to where you last played. In this case you will need to exercise care in Dropping (I sometimes refer to this as a player may need to go to “drop school”). Dropping within 6” of the spot is close enough, BUT should the ball come to rest in an old divot, or against loose impediments that if moved it might cause the ball to move, it is in play. Also remember that once the ball strikes the require spot on the golf course it can roll up to 2 club lengths and still be in play. More than 2 club lengths and it is a Re-Drop. After the Second Drop, assuming the ball did not come to rest within the 2 club lengths the ball is Place were it first struck the course. HOLE #2: Follow the same procedure as Hole #1 for OB left and beyond the green. The Cart Path on the right side sometimes comes into play. Cart Paths are referred to as IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTION just like sprinkler heads. This is a Free Relief situation. The first thing you must do is determine the Nearest Point of Relief (NPR). There is only one spot but it will differ depending upon whether you are a right or left-handed player. To determine The Spot you must take your stance with the club with which you intend to use for the shot and place a tee or some other small object where the ball would lie. That is the NPR. If it’s close you should measure from both sides of the path. Once the NPR is determined you must drop within 1 club length of that spot no nearer the hole. The same rules for dropping apply as with OB, the ball must stay within 2 club lengths (same club that you measured with to determine the NPR), if not you place the ball after the second drop. HOLE #3: The same principals apply here for OB left and the Cart Path left as described for Holes 1 & 2. Another possible issue here is Ball Unplayable. This could come into play either in the trees left or by the boulders behind the green. The boulders are Loose Impediments, but only if can be moved without delaying play and if not solidly imbedded. The procedure for Ball Unplayable is as follows. For a penalty of one stroke, you have 3 choices. (1) Replay the shot under stroke and distance that got you in trouble. (2) Keep the spot where the ball lies on a straight line between you and the hole going back as far as you like. (3) Drop a ball within 2 club lengths of where the ball lies no nearer the hole. Remember my statement about “Drop School”. Should the ball roll back into the place that you were taking relief from it is now in play and you may have to do it all over again incurring another 1 stroke penalty. Tahoe Incline Golf club Newsletter may 2015 HOLE #4 & 5: Nothing different or special here other than if you hit your Tee Shot left you must find it. If not, it’s back to the Tee and play it as either a Lost Ball or Ball Out of Bounds. Hopefully you hit a Provisional Ball from the Tee to save time. HOLE #6: Ah yes, now we have the wonderful 6th hole at the Champ Course, right Mr. President. In front of the Green we have a Water Hazard. It is marked Yellow, therefore if it is Known or Virtually Certain that your ball is in the Water Hazard (entered from either side) you must take relief from the Tee side of the Hazard. Once again, we have 3 options under penalty of one stroke. (1) You may play again from the Tee (Stroke and Distance). (2) You may drop a Ball on a straight line keeping the point of entry between you and the hole, no limit as to how far back you may go. (3) As an additional option you may use the Dropping Zone (DZ). The KEY here is it must be Known or Virtually Certain that your Ball is in the Water Hazard. If not, you MUST play under stroke and distance. Specifically if you hit it high left or right could your ball have come to rest in any other place than the Water Hazard? If the answer is yes, then you must find the ball or else it must be considered Lost. In using the DZ be careful in dropping, generally there are many divots where your ball could come to rest and be in play. MORE NEXT TIME. Gordon Morse (775)636-1312 gm.morse@mac.com Tahoe Incline Golf club Newsletter may 2015 Welcome to the 2015 golf season! The golf staffs at both the Championship and Mountain Golf Courses are excited to provide our TIGC Membership with great services, course conditions, and welcoming relationships. We are excited to get our golf courses open early in 2015! With the mild winter/spring we are opening the Mountain Course on Friday May 1st. The Championship Course is set to open on Friday May 8th, along with the Grille at The Chateau. Both dates are the earliest opening we have had in my tenure here with IVGID. We have a few “new” team members coming on Board this season. I say “new” because all of our “new” management team members have worked for the golf courses in recent years. The first introduction is our Teaching Professional, Neil Gunn. Neil comes to us from Florida and was part of our Professional Staff in 2010 and 2011. We will have a full bio on Neil’s history and teaching philosophies posted to our website soon. Neil will be coming on board around May 15th. Second introduction is our Golf Shop Lead (2nd Assistant Golf Professional), Rob Bruce. Rob is a local resident of Incline and worked with our team from 1996-2004. Most recently Rob worked as the Head Professional at Schaeffer’s Mill. Rob will be involved with many of the TIGC events throughout the summer. Last introduction is our Outside Services Supervisor, Andrew Hardy. Andrew is a recent graduate from SNC with a degree in Ski Business Management/Marketing. Andrew has worked in our Outside Staff at the Champ Course for the past 3 seasons. We are excited to promote Andrew into his leadership roll of our welcoming outside team. Both golf courses came through the winter in very good shape, due to the mild winter and efforts of the maintenance staffs to put the courses to bed properly in the fall. There was limited snow mold damage and a small amount of vole damage. The greens on both courses will be in excellent early season condition, and the emphasis at the start of the year is primarily on the health of the turf rather than the speed of the greens. The lack of snow has allowed us to work on several projects this spring. On the Championship Course we have completed the following: • • • • Replacement of nozzles in most of the sprinkler heads on the fairways Irrigation additions in several areas to improve coverage and turf conditions Construction of the Red Tee’s for official use in 2015 season Tree work on holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 14, and 18 Tahoe Incline Golf club Newsletter may 2015 On the Mountain Course, we have been working on ways to make the course easier and more player-friendly. Some of the specific items to assist with that goal are: • Tree trimming around the greens and approaches • Dead tree removal • Native grass trimmed back around creeks and hole boundaries • Increase fairway approaches where applicable Thank you ALL for you continued support in our beautiful Golf Courses; we look forward to giving TIGC another memorable golf season! - Michael Mc Closkey, PGA TIGC Board Members President" " Vice President" Treasurer" " Secretary" " Director" " Director" " Director" " Director" " Director" " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " Dan Beadle" " Gary Berge" " Gene Brockman Ric Cesped Dwayne Elwood" Jim Erickson" " Larry Fagan" " Geoff Foreman" Frank Shipman" Volunteers Paul Covec David La Barge Gordon Morse Gary Prosenko Jim Valenta Tahoe Incline Golf club Newsletter " " " " Membership Treasurer " " " " " Handicap Chair Social Events Tournament Chair Rules & Formats may 2015 Reservation Policy The TIGC Board of Directors has revised the golf events booking policies.
