Term 1 Week 8 Wednesday 18th March 2015
SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOURS:
Attached to this weeks newsletter you will find a matrix titled
School Wide Positive Behaviours. This has been a piece of work
that all the staff have been working on at our Professional
Learning Team meetings. This program was recommended to the
school from our School Review last year and a lot of work is
going on around this and is a focus for our school this year. As a
staff we have listed the behaviours that we expect from
everyone in our school around our values of Respect,
Responsibility and Safety. The teachers are discussing these with
the students and we are seeking feedback from both the
children and parents before we fully implement the matrix next
term. You are able to give feedback in any form you wish and
either hand it in to the office or email to our school email
address by next Monday the 23rd March please. Our hope is for
ALL students to become very familiar with the values and
expectations and we will constantly use the language in the
matrix and have children reflect on their behaviour. I really value
your feedback and I hope that you take some time to look
through this thoroughly and let us know what you think.
EASTER RAFFLE:
We would love for families to donate Easter items including
chocolates, books, toys etc. for our annual Easter Egg Raffle
PLEASE!! We will be drawing our raffle at our end of term
assembly next FRIDAY at 9:10am. In the past we have had some
fantastic donations, however we do not have many as yet.
Please, please, please help us make this small fundraiser a
successful one.
TRACKY DACK DAY:
This should be a fun day that the Junior School Council students
have organised for this Friday. We look forward to seeing all the
children wearing their tracky dacks as well as bringing a gold coin
to donate to sick children in hospital. The reason for tracky
dacks is that sick children often wear them when they are in
hospital because they are comfy and warm as our JS reps have
mentioned at assembly. We hope to raise lots of $$ for the
Children's ward of Geelong Hospital from this fun day. Children
are still expected though to wear their school polo shirts and
jumpers on the day.
END OF TERM ONE:
Just a reminder that we finish at 2:30 next Friday for the end of
term 1. We will have our assembly at 9:10am as mentioned
earlier. Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up
at this time if needed.
LONG SERVICE LEAVE:
I will be taking the first 2 weeks of term two on long service
leave. In my absence Tracy Doherty will be the acting principal. I
am looking forward to a nice break to travel overseas.

EXTEND OSHC AT GROVEDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL
HOLIDAY PROGRAM BOOKINGS ARE OPEN AT A SCHOOL NEAR YOU!
Book by Friday 20th March to avoid late fees.
Our holiday program bookings are open and there’s a local one near you – all Extend’s holiday programs are
open to primary school aged boys and girls. And the great news is, if you’re already enrolled with us for After
School Care you won’t need to enrol again to access our Holiday Programs. We have heaps of fun activities
planned these school holidays and we can’t wait for you to attend! To check out what’s on and where your local program is,
visit our website at extend.com.au and book via the Parent Portal. Recap: Last week we did painting, played cricket, soccer
and spud. We spent one afternoon painting noodles to make necklaces; it was very messy! The kids experimented with arts
and crafts, and made some cute minions out of old toilet rolls. With the help of Zac & Thomas, we enjoyed playing on the
playground, especially with the challenge that was created. It’s great to see so many returning faces each week. Please make
sure to ring head office and cancel the booking if your child is unwell or not attending, to help with catering and staffing. Our
Extend Superstar is….Thomas for being a great help with the younger kids and showing respect to everyone. Next week’s
activities: Monday 23 March: Cooking- Muffins, Tuesday 24 March: Arts & Crafts- Easter themed, Wednesday 25 March:
Science- making slime, Thursday 26 March: Arts & Crafts- Easter themed, Friday 27 March: Easter egg hunt. Watch this
space throughout the term for regular updates from our Extend team!

“PROJECT WILD THING” The City of Greater Geelong would like to
invite Families, Teachers, Carers and the General Community to a
screening of Project Wild Thing. Filmmaker David Bond is a worried
man. His kid’s waking hours are dominated by a cacophony of marketing, and a screen dependence threatening to turn them into glassyeyed zombies. Like city kids every where, they spend way too much
time indoors– not like it was back in his day. He decides its time to get
back to nature-literally. Project Wild Thing is a film-led movement to
get more kids (and their folks!) outside and reconnecting with nature.
The film is an ambitious, feature-length documentary that takes a funny and revealing look at a complex issue, the increasingly disparate
connection between children and nature, coined ‘nature deficit disorder’ by psychologists. “This film will change your life” Patrick Barkham, The Guardian. When:
Wednesday 15th April 2015 be there for a 6:00pm start. Where: Eastern Gardens Geelong,
