May 2015, EN 21/05/2015 www.massoth.com RAILS & TIES THE INTERNATIONAL MASSOTH NEWSLETTER May 2015 LGB „Franzburg“ - Retrofitting Decoders to the new DCC Interface „M1“ The Franzburg loco has been the eyecatcher in front of the original LGB factory for decades. Every LGB fan remembers the catalog photos of this prototype and most have been waiting for this model to become an LGB loco. Finally it has come to life! The Franzburg loco is equipped with the „M1“ DCC interface, the new decoder interface that is used in some LGB locos and will be the new standard digital interface. Massoth offers two different decoders (sound and non-sound) that fit the M1 DCC interface. Both are fully compatible with the MTS II and MTS III type central stations, and both offering parallel and serial operation as usual: screws that hold the cabin. Then remove the four screws inside the cabins ceiling to remove the roof. Remove the analog adapter from the DCC interface and replace it with the eMOTION XLSM1 Sounddecoder (#8215018 Franzburg) or the eMOTION XL-M1 Loco Decoder (#8150501). The loudspeaker should be connected prior to decoder installation. •XLS-M1 Sounddecoder (var. sound projects) •XL-M1 Loco Decoder Both M1 decoders support the bus features introduced with the ALLEGRA train in 2013. The bus functions (for example: light functions) commands are mappable to function addresses F0...F28 which can be operated with the DiMAX Navigator connected to a DiMAX DCC system. The Franzburg locos decoder compartment is hidden under the roof. First remove the four Massoth Elektronik GmbH Frankensteiner Str. 28 · D-64342 Seeheim · Germany FON +49 (0)6151-35077-0 · FAX +49 (0)6151-35077-44 eMail: info@massoth.de · Internet: www.massoth.de Now reassemble the loco in reverse order and lead the loudspeaker cable through the cabin‘s housing to the decoder compartment in the roof. The loudspeaker can be installed behind the motor block, under the cabin which needs to be removed from the main frame. First remove the screw holding the linkage (on both sides), then remove the four screws closest to the hook and loop coupler (rear). Both cylinders need to be removed (one screw each). Now the motor block can be removed from the main frame. Install the loudspeaker and make some modification to create a flat support. A piece of foam may be used to fill the compartment and enhance sound quality. Set your prefered decoder settings and then test the decoder and sound functions to make sure everything works. Please pay close attention to the standard decoder settings, such as speed steps (14 or 28 in CV 29) or parallel and serial functions (CV 49) to make sure the decoder runs propperly with your DCC system. LGB MTS II supports 14 speed steps (MTS III up to 28 with DiMAX Navigator). If settings are incorrect the light will not work correctly (flashing or not at all). If the loco runs fine, roof and cabin may be assembled and the loco is ready to operate. HappyLGBing!
