REMINDER TO ALL MEMBERS
Lockheed Martin's Workplace Security policy, CPS-565 is strictly enforced. One provision of
the policy is a workplace free of weapons, which includes Firearms, Ammunition, Bows and
Arrows. The club must emphasize this policy to our members. Additionally, a state issued
CCW permit does not supersede nor over ride this LMA policy. Members wanting to store
firearms or archery equipment during the day ONLY, must contact Gene Adamson (303-9711531) or Dave Mulholland (303-977-3674) for access instructions.
PRESIDENT’S MONTHLY MESSAGE
As we kick off another year at the Skyline Hunting and Fishing Club, I reflect on two great facts
about our organization. First, we are the largest Lockheed Martin Employee club in Denver.
Second, we run entirely through the efforts of our volunteers. This year I would like to see the
opportunities we can realize when we leverage both of these attributes to our mutual benefit.
Those at the Banquet heard me speak about revitalizing our Purchasing Committee. In addition
to our FFL, the club may be able to offer a discount to those getting into reloading, building up a
project from parts, or perhaps looking for new optics or accessories. Our struggle is maintaining
consistent relationships with the industry due to a lack of volunteers in this area. We’ve had
some come forward from the banquet but we need more volunteers to fully realize the potential
of this benefit. Time spent on purchasing counts towards your annual workbond just as any
other club volunteer activity!
As a reminder Volunteers need to make sure they log their hours to get credit for workbond.
Optionally, as Skyline Hunting and Fishing Club is a non-profit, LM Employees can log their
volunteer time with the InsideLM homepage. Hours count towards recognition for the
President’s Volunteer Service Award.
As we get ramped up for our annual badge renewal and safety recertification, I would like each
member to think about what they would like to see improved in our club. We always need
volunteers to keep our RSO support strong throughout the year to open and oversee safety on the
range. Likewise, we need volunteers to continue supporting our educational programs. If you
see an area you would like to learn, contact the organizer for information. If you see an
opportunity to improve the offerings of the club, please bring your suggestions to the board. We
want to see the club usage grow and remain a valued part of our Waterton Canyon experience!

PAST PRESIDENT’S 2014 REPORT CARD
When I think of what the Club was ask to do to restart last year, and what the Board and you as
members had to endure it’s been a daunting year…. Here’s my take on where we are, where do
each of you think we stand?
The one fact that everyone is ask to remember… we’re all volunteers, so anything you believe
can be improved we certainly would welcome the help or just inputs.
Achievements;
The efforts done to get all friends, family members and members trained with basic firearms
safety familiarization went extremely well. The club owes special thanks to the instructors that
helped with those classes and the optional range shooting days we offered to make people feel
comfortable and safe on the range with their own capabilities and those they are around. Lou
Turner, Steve Chan, Mike Bethancourt, Geoff Heil, and Andy Ingram have really gone above
and beyond to make that action as well liked as the feedback we’ve received so far indicates.
The Range Safety Officer (RSO) effort is a big task and has many aspects, but the work that the
nightly teams accomplished for the Monday through Thursday RSO Teams did such a great job
on providing coverage that we’ll probably be expanding this more in 2015.
The efforts with the Pistol training cases, both Basic and Personal Protection in the Home
(PPITH), saw new instructors taking classes and gaining experience and providing members and
friends to have a positive pistol proficiency experience has been great to get started again. Brian
Sompayrac and Sherry Woodard organized the entire schedule, with several of our new
instructors both gaining classroom experience and even taking the lead instructor role on these
courses for a special thanks to Dave Hartman and Bob Ventura.
Activities to Work On:
A lot…websites, electronic sign-in, power to the RSO, shotgun and 100 yard for evening
shooting, RSO Coverage (ugh)….

MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES
SHFC ANNUAL BANQUET AND FEBRUARY MEMBERS MEETING
Our annual SHFC Banquet was held on Sunday, February 15th, at the University Club in
downtown Denver (17th & Sherman). The University Club has been described as a “country
club without a golf course” and is full of rich history. The Clubhouse was dedicated in 1895,
with major additions in 1923, 1957 and 1980. We held the 2015 banquet in the College Room.
It’s name is derived from the fact that members have had stained glass college logos made and
installed in the windows around the banquet room.

We had 92 people in attendance. This year we invited all of the supporting instructors for our
NRA classes as well as our Hunter Education classes to attend.

Scott Lowery gave us a brief history of the club and point out some of the more interesting
features of the building.
Gene Adamson led the Pledge of Allegience.
Gene gave the annual State of the Club
address. He noted that we were able to
begin operations again in April 2014. He
emphasized that LM has made it clear
that SHFC is on its “last strike” and
another major incident will result in the
loss of the range.
Gene thanked a number of people for
their outstanding service to SHFC this
past year.
The SHFC FFL will be upgraded to
allow us to purchase sound suppressors. It should ready to go sometime this summer.

The work to upgrade the electrical power at the range is continuing. Several BOD members met
with Sturgeon Electric representatives to discuss the project and to provide information to allow
them to prepare a cost estimate. Waiting to hear from them.
There will be a lot of different projects to be done at the range this year. The pistol house
surface is being leveled all the way to the shotgun berm. We will be putting down decomposed
granite and landscaping fabric on the new surface. Grass mowing and weed control will be
needed. We will continue to work on the new pistol berms beyond the 200/300 yard range. We
need to replace some shingles on the 100 and 200/300 yard coverings. There will be more
projects identified as the summer nears.
We are working to get the weekend and off-Friday RSO shifts filled. With 180 trained RSOs, no
one should have to do more than one shift every 3-4 months if everyone is doing their share.
Honorary Life Members were introduced. Honorees were Norm Viste, George Riedmuller, Dan
Saad, and Bill Schloesslin.

and adjustable AccuTrigger. The lucky winner was Jim Cathcart. He was so busy handing out
other door prizes that he almost missed his number being called!

Introduction of new members of the BOD
Walter talked about production of the newsletter. Gene sent President’s column for last month,
Scott will provide one for March. Try to publish by mid-month with BOD minutes, important
reminders, etc. Need to get Walter access to master email for correspondence with general
membership.
Purchasing committee got a great deal on DPMS AR-15 rifles. Sold 38 of them with less than
one day notice. Recruiting volunteers to help with purchasing committee on non-firearm related.
Need to reinvigorate Trap shooting on Thursday nights. Get an article in the newsletter to get
more people out or else we may be in danger of losing the sport. Perhaps offer a free round of
trap for new shooters?
General Shale (formerly Robinson Brick) dumped a load of broken bricks. Permission has been
granted to use any we need. Need to talk to Stan Merritt (Roads & Grounds) about using some
to fill in on the road in low spots. Will need to find out if SHFC or RRSC can do the work or if
we will have to let LM do the work.
Franklin Denny taking over for Randy Houchen who is retiring. Frank will be the club interface
with Plant Protection and will help coordinate Law Enforcement Agency use of the range.
AEDs are available. One is located in the club house and one will be located in the RSO Shed.
Treasurer’s report presented by Bill Schloesslin. Overall nearly a $5000 overrun due to some
one-time expenses. Motion to accept made by Jim. Seconded by Wayne. Unanimous approval.
Review of annual safety briefing as developed last week. Small changes provided by BOD.
Ready to send to the company and to start scheduling renewal sessions. Sessions at SSB for
active employees and sessions at clubhouse for others.
Radios are still an issue at the range. UHF Band radios will be $2500 for license and 6 radios.
FRS radios are about $40 each. BOD recommends replacing the FRS radios every 6 months.
Jim will investigate inexpensive options with very few features.

Standdown Day proposed for March 22nd (make up day for 2014). AED demonstration, NSSF
safety videos, etc. May have to do some at the clubhouse.
Amy will inquire to find an expert on non-profit rules for Colorado and how much it might cost.
A request for budgets from all committees needs to be sent out. Get John Larue to send out.
Need to get lawn tractor to a service technician. Coordinate with Cal Ensor/Ray Ziehm

The 2015 Range Safety Test, 2015 Draft of the Range Rules, which just includes some
clarification of current rules and requirements… The 2015 Liability Waiver form was sent via
email. These forms are not yet available on the club’s web site… Make sure you complete the
test and waiver form prior to attending the renewal session. You are only required to attend
one of the renewal sessions.
Proof of Firearms Safety Training:
Also, please turn in your 2014 range access badge at your renewal session. Since you turned in
your proof of firearms safety training last year, and I have them on file, your 2014 badge will be
proof that you renewed last year and have turned in the appropriate safety training documents….
If you did not renew in 2014, you will be required to bring a copy of some type of firearms
safety training, which will be put on file.
You will not be able to receive you 2015 badge until you turn in your 2014 range access badge,
or provide proof of firearms safety training.
Until further notice, your 2014 range access badge will be good for range access thru this March

MESSAGE FROM CS REGARDING CLUB NEWSLETTER
As the 2015 Corresponding Secretary (CS), one of my tasks is to re-establish a new and
improved monthly club newsletter. The newsletter will have the following sections:

 News and Announcements
 Classified Ads
 Calendar
 Reference
The first 5 sections are new stuff for every month and should be the stuff the members really
want to read. The reference section is for static info like the regular event descriptions,
NRA/Hunter Ed class schedule for the year, stuff in our library and tools for loan, etcetera. I

plan to have the reference info updated on our SHFC web page so the reference section will just
be a link to that web location http://gvtg.com/skyline/index.html, click the Committees/Programs
link on the left.
I expect to have the monthly newsletter come out mid-month to allow us to get the current
month’s meeting minutes in there. Of course we’ll probably still have real time
announcement/reminder emails to members. This March NL is still a work in progress and any
comments/feedback for improvement is welcome. I expect the April NL to include classified ads
and inputs from the various event chairmen. For now the latest event schedules such as for NRA
classes, Hunter Ed, Skeet, Practical Pistol, High Power, etcetera are listed in the calendar. Thank

through that committee chair who will coordinate with Norm. Thank you for your help and

Steel Silhouette. These
general membership steel
days, on the 5th Saturday of
the month, provide an
opportunity for members to enjoy shooting at the club steel just for fun. The next GMSD will be
on May 30th at the 200 yard range.

Skeet and Trap
Weekday after work Skeet and Trap has started for the season. Please see the calendar for
schedule. Skeet can use a couple more backup helpers to close the Constellation Drive gates on
Tuesday nights. Contact Tom Moore, 303-263-6473, if you like to volunteer. The Trap
participation was very low last year. We are reviewing plans to boost participation. If you have
any ideas/suggestions or want to come shoot some trap, please contact Lou Turner at 303-3582260.
