PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
BY ED DEEBLE
We’ve gone from March to the
Masters and here we are in early summer. Jordan Spieth is masterful and
Tiger Woods is back in the mix and the
fun continues at Harbor Park. The President’s Cup match play is full of drama
and close matches with eight of us left to
duel it out. Match play really adds spice
to a round of golf like tabasco on a taco.
Now is when it gets really exciting so
good luck to those remaining.
The timing for aerating the greens
worked out well at Harbor Park. It’s
nice to get that out of the way and have 3
weeks between 9 hole tournaments to
restore the surfaces. The greens at Wilson had that ring fungus and I’m glad we
don’t have that at our home course. The
conditions overall at Harbor Park seem
quite good with all the trees and the fairways healthy. When the Lake Machado
project completes, Harbor Park might
look even better.
I can’t wait to go to Laughlin May
12-13-14.
We always play quality
courses, the weather is warm, and casino’s are a blast with basketball and
hockey playoffs in the sports lounge.
I’m looking forward to a delicious buffet
dinner and a little gaming. I think I even
won at those loose tables last year, but I
can’t remember for sure. Maybe we’ll
all be winners this year.
Rooster’s putting tournament can provide great mental preparation for the 9 hole round, and I play it
every time. Suddenly the score counts
and mistakes can be made. Maybe stupid ones. Maybe a miss read or you forget to hit it hard enough. Maybe a 2
footer lips out or perhaps you feel like
you choked. If all that doesn’t begin to
wake you up how about making a 3 putt
on the fifth hole costing you a buck.
Those realities can shake me up a little
and get my blood simmering before the 9
hole even starts. Sometimes you putt
well and win and there are no disappointments …..look out. Thanks Rooster for your hard work and a job well
done.
When players join Harbor Park
Men’s Club and compete, the rules of
golf become important to follow.
Thankfully we are an honest bunch and
are above fudging with the rules as we
understand them. Learning the rules is a
never-ending endeavor and here is a link
to a quick guide. Google…..On Par-10
Rules Every Golfer Should Know. It
starts out with a squirrel taking a
ball……….enjoy.
Sadly I have to mention the passing of Buddy Parks a long time member
and friend to many in the club. Too
young to go, he will be missed.
Thanks to all for participating in
the events, to the board for working so
hard to make them happen, to new members for joining, and congratulations to
all the new golfers of the month. Hit em
straight and roll em in. Ed Deeble

Laughlin Tournament 2015
Well, we just completed our trip to Laughlin. We enjoyed sunny 80° – 95° temps. for all 3 days. 28 golfers and
9 spouses made the trip to Harrah’s Hotel. The rooms and food were very good.
On Tuesday at Huukan golf course, we experienced a lot of wind, but still had a lot of fun. We had a 2 person
“blind draw” for prize $$. The winners were: Rich Hildebrand, Pat McAuley, John Sizemore, John Masaki,
Don Hibbard, Jack McDonald a 3 way tie.
On Wednesday, we again faced strong winds at Huukan for our 18 hole may tournament. Flt. I winner: Mike
Mofson – net 67. Flt. II winner: Ken Parker – net 63.
On Thursday, we had a 4 person scramble at Mojave resort. Once more, we endured strong winds. Two teams
tied for 1st place: Gerry McDonald, John Sizemore, Gary Bodahely, Jim Baxter (g) & Mike Mofson, Mike Sedlak, Ken Parker, Lorie Hoinsky (g). Congrats to all the winners!!
On Wednesday, evening, we enjoyed the awards dinner at Harrah’s buffet. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The ladies all got a “thank you for attending” bottle of wine and a gift package courtesy of an anonymous donor. We raffled off four nice alcohol prizes, again from our donor (collected $145.00). I understand that
a few folks enjoyed some good fortune at the slots and felt tables.
I want to thank Robert Allen for all his major help in running the 3 days of golf. Gerry McDonald for bringing
all the snacks and beverages for hospitality room on Monday and Tuesday nights; Pat McAuley for donating several bottles of alcohol and bar-tending; Ann Allen for making very nice name badges. We don’t always recognize the players without their hats! We only get to see the ladies twice a year. Thanks to the guest players for
coming: Lorie Hoinsky; Bill & Jim Baxter. Thanks to all the ladies for attending: Delores Ault, Anastasia Ault,
Janet Sedlak, Lee Ann Randazzo, Ann Allen, Penny Hull, Lorie Hoinsky, Charlene White, & Connie Cunningham (Bud). A special thanks to my son, Michael Mofson, for all the “little things” he does to help me!!!
Final note: it appears that as our members’ age, the drive and three days of golf has become more than we can
handle. Maybe we need to move to a closer location (Temecula?) and only two rounds of golf. I need your
opinions!!
