2016: 25TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON THE STARDUST CHRISTMAS DAZZLE by Harlowe Reed VANYA & SONIA & MASHA & SPIKE by Christopher Durang HEDDA GABLER by Henrik Ibsen Adapted by Aaron Lamb THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE by Julia Cho e N OV E M B E R 2 7 – D E C E M B E R 3 1 , 2 0 1 5 When young Count Manderson invades the club disguised as a regular guy he’s not simply seeking a cocktail. He wants a spot in the line up to premiere his budding talents. Noting that the gang lacks enthusiasm for his plan, he reveals his identity and vows to buy the club, tear it down and put an apartment building in its place. Then his aristocratic dad shows up to take him back to England and they all become embroiled in the hilarious turmoil of show business ambitions and Holiday confusion. The 20th of the Stardust series, Dazzle is set in 1959 and features the popular music and dance of the golden age of American Rock’n’Roll! Musical Comedy for all ages. JANUARY 21 – FEBRUARY 13, 2016 In this Tony Award-winning play, playwright Christopher Durang mashes Chekhov, Greek tragedy and modern pop culture with his own offbeat sensibility to create truly unique and hilarious comedy. Your heart has to go out to three siblings whose artsy parents named them after characters from Chekhov. Vanya and Sonia have lived at home while sister Masha has travelled the world starring in B-movies. Now Masha is back with her boy toy Spike in tow, and she’s intent on selling the house. Farce ensues. Adult Comedy - Some strong language. MARCH 3 – 26, 2016 Hedda Gabler has returned from an extended honeymoon with her kind but tediously academic husband. Beautiful and self-possessed, but also haunted, she is already bored with marriage. Suffocated by bourgeois society and disdainful of intellectual pursuits, she tries to fulfill her aimless desires by manipulating the fates of those around her...with tragic results. Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler is a fascinating, paradoxical portrait of a woman slipping into despair as her options narrow in a world expanding for both sexes. Mature Drama. M AY 5 – 2 8 , 2 0 1 6 George studies dead languages and is busy trying to record the conversations of the last two speakers of one such endangered language, Elloway. But despite his vast knowledge of languages, George is inept in the language of love. He doesn’t know what to say to his wife, Mary, to keep her from leaving him. This beautiful, modern-mythic comedy is a delightful exploration of the terrifying inadequacy of language to bridge the distance between human beings. Comic Drama - Some strong language. e J U N E 2 3 – J U LY 2 4 , 2 0 1 6 LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS by composer Alan Menken & writer Howard Ashman Seymour Krelborn is a meek floral shop assistant who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice and an unquenchable thirst for human blood. As it rapidly grows, the carnivorous plant promises fame and fortune to Seymour as long as he continues providing blood. Just when it’s too late, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s extraterrestrial origins and his true drive for world-domination. A sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score. Fun for everyone. e AUGUST 18 – SEPTEMBER 10, 2016 THE LAST FIVE YEARS This intimate musical chronicles a five year relationship between Jamie, a rising novelist, and Cathy, a struggling actress. Expressed through the evocative music and lyrics of Jason Robert Brown, the timeline is traced from opposite directions beginning with Cathy’s lament at the end of their marriage while Jamie starts at the earliest and sweetest moment of their romance. Their experiences intersect only in the middle where they share a wedding song. The Last Five Years is made of touching revelations about the pervasive joys and stresses that emerge when two creative people fall in love. All ages with guidance.
