The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, together with the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the The Hellenic Society of Constantinople Present The Annual Commemoration of the Fall of Constantinople Thursday, May 28, 2015 | 7pm | at the Damen Student Center at Loyola Univ. | 6511 N. Sheridan Road This year’s commemoration will feature a talk by Prof. Lou Ureneck, author of the newly-released HarperCollins book “The Great Fire” that tells the story of a Christian Minister whose efforts saved 250,000 Greeks during the final days of the tragic events in Smyrna in 1922. Books will be available for signing and purchase. The event is held in simultaneous commemoration of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and will include a musical and dance tribute to Smyrna, Pontus and Constantinople by Chicago’s Perifania School of Hellenic Folk Dance, and musicians Dimitrios Dallas, Yannis Kousiounelos, and Christina Dallas; and the Chicago Byzantine Choir.
