following items; bowl (metal or ceramic are best for the yeast
mix), board, measuring cup/ jug, measuring spoons, wooden spoon, Oven Tray, Tea

Mā te tuakana ka tōtika te teina, mā te teina ka tōtika te tuakana
From the older sibling the younger learns how to do it.
From the younger sibling the older learns how to be tolerant.
Everyone has responsibilities, both the old and the young.
Fishing Competition
Another successful fishing competition! An enormous thank you to all the parents and
community members who supported this event with sponsorship and support on the day
and particularly to Dianne Park, Craig Bowering and Sarah Perry for their organisational skill.
Reading Together – Last workshop tonight
We all know how very important learning to read is for children to succeed.
Reading together is a ministry funded initiative to improve children’s reading and parents understanding
of what helps children at school and home to learn to read. This has been running in schools across the
country with much success in raising the achievement of children in reading.
It is the last of the four workshops tonight; I would like to thank all the families that have
attended for their attendance and enthusiasm. We will be running another series of workshops later
the in the year or early next year. If you would be interested in attending the next series of workshops
please contact Mrs Cameron.
Kowhai Award
As most of you know the supreme weekly award is the ‘Kowhai Award’
this award is given to children who demonstrate the school values and
strive for excellence. The award is given out at our weekly celebration
on a Friday at assembly and the winner’s virtues are espoused.
This week’s winner was Kaden Drew. Kaden is an excellent self-manager; staying on
task, finishing to a high standard and in a timely manner. He shows respect for
others consistently. In class Kaden has excellent book standards presenting his work
with care. Kaden always listens to instructions and strives hard to complete his best
work, demonstrating excellence. Kaden is a kind and caring member of Room 5.
Keep up the good work Kaden, we are very proud of you and enjoy having you at
Hikutaia School!
Whole School Camp
Please make sure you have camp forms back to school as soon as possible, camp fees will need to be paid
before the end of term also unless otherwise arranged through the principal.
Portfolios and Three Way Conferences – Tuesday 31st March
Please bring the portfolios back to school with your child to the three conference on Tuesday. As usual
Hikutaia parents have shown how much they care and are involved with their child’s learning, most
teachers only have one or two appointment times left between 1 – 7pm and our teaching staff put in an
enormous effort to see everyone. Appointments are 15 minutes long and it is very important that we keep
to schedule as this has an enormous impact on others when you don’t.
If you have missed acquiring a time please make an appointment before or after school on another day or
if you serious concerns about your child’s learning or behaviour that needs to be discussed without your
child present the conferences are not the place to discuss this, please make a separate appointment.
Please remember that the day of three way conferences (Tuesday 31st March) is a short day and
all children need to be picked up at 12.30pm or go on their regular bus that will run at this early
time.
