Lampokhari Paryatan Mahotsav, the annual showpiece event of Chujachen
constituency got underway today at Aritar, with

of Silk Route to the Dream
of Mansarovar”.

Amba gets Farm School
Gangtok, Mar 27: In an initiative to promote learning from
experiences of one farmer to
another for effective extension
and quick transfer of agricultural technology among the
farming community, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim,
ICAR Sikkim Centre, Ranipool,
launched a Farm School for
“Integrated Pest Management
on maize” at Amba village on
March on Thursday.
The farm has been sponsored by ATMA (East), Department of Food Security
and Agriculture Development Department.
Inaugurating the Farm
School, Chief Guest Dr. R. K.
Avasthe, Joint Director,
ICAR Research Complex,
Sikkim Centre said that the
idea of opening of Farm
School at the farm and village level is to support agriculture and allied activities to
bring out changes in the agricultural development sce-
nario in the State under
changing climatic conditions.
He opined that the Farm
School would help in developing cost effective extension system for effective and
rapid technology transfer in
agriculture and allied fields
particularly integrated pest
management.
Dr. H. Kalita, Principal Scientist (Entomology), ICAR,
Sikkim Centre, Tadong elaborated the role of Integrated
Pest Management technologies and different tools of
IPM on maize.
35 farmers participated
and benefitted with necessary inputs viz., maize seeds
varieties RCM 1-1, RCM 1-3
and RCM 1-2(Popcorn) and
other organic fertilizers and
pesticides. The Farm School
has been established in the
field of Phurba Lepcha,
Amba village as Farmers’
Teacher, who is cultivating
maize crop in one hectare area
Ramnavami greetings from Guv and CM
Gangtok, Mar 27: Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil and
First Lady Rajanidevi Patil have extended warm greeting and
best wishes to the people of Sikkim on the propitious occasion of Ram Navami.
In his message, Governor said: “the auspicious ninth day
of ‘Chaitra Navaratri’ is celebrated as Ramnavami, the day of
the birth of ‘Maryada Purosottam Rama’ the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The day reminds us of Sri Rama’s life and
deeds that epitomise the ideal of selflessness and duty over
self, an eternal source of wisdom and light for the people committed for the common good of society since ancient times.
“On this auspicious day, let’s dedicate ourselves to our
duties, the wider cause of society and the country, and en-
rich ourselves with the core values and ideals that our culture represents” he said in his message.
On the auspicious occasion of Ramnawami, the Chief
Minister Pawan Chamling and Tika Maya Chamling have
also extended their warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.
In his message, the Chief Minister has said, “May this
festival of Ramnawami strengthen the faith of the people in
the goodness of mankind and inspire one and all to lead a
virtuous life and practice the noble example of love, compassion and humanism of Lord Rama, and be inspired to follow
the highest moral and ethical values.”
