Chinese Team Liaison Officer Hockey Australia is hosting the Senior Women’s Chinese squad for 3 matches on the 2nd, 4th and 6th April 2015. THE ROLE: The team liaison is responsible for being the point of contact between Hockey Australia, the tournament organising committee and the touring team to which they are appointed. The role of the liaison is to ensure an enjoyable, smooth experience for the visiting team and to provide access to local knowledge whilst promoting Hockey Australia and its facilities in a positive light. It is the team liaison’s responsibility to ensure that the touring team is adequately equipped to compete on a level playing field with the host team. DUTIES: Liaise with all team members, coaches and officials to ensure that all relevant information is received by the appropriate parties quickly and efficiently Liaise with Hockey Australia and the organising committee on all matters relating to the team in question Attend meetings conducted by Hockey Australia as requested Attend meetings conducted by local hockey authority (e.g. Hockey NSW) as requested Become familiar with all aspects of the event plan Ensure all travel logistics are completed prior to arrival and departure Meet touring party at the airport upon arrival Collect and sign out vehicles from car rental and have them ready as team arrives at airport Direct team to their accommodation and help them settle Determine level of support required with the assigned team including but not limited to : o Tour of the stadium and areas of importance (first aid, change rooms etc.) o Attend training sessions, meetings and matches to ensure any requests from the touring manager are actioned correctly o Relay information relating to various amenities around Sydney (i.e. Hospitals, emergency services, transportation, eateries, entertainment areas etc.) o Make bookings at the above amenities (especially with ESL teams) e.g. dinner reservations, booking in MRI’s etc. o Uniform assistance – a common need is to have screen printing done on replacement shirts for players – the team liaison needs to have connections to executive this within 24 hours or less KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The team liaison is responsible to the visiting team and all travelling members and will work in collaboration with the following: Hockey Australia staff and affiliates, as well as the home Association (e.g. Hockey NSW) Tournament Coordinators Venue/Stadium staff Touring team management and players Media Caterers Security staff KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED Ideally, the team liaison is someone who: Possesses strong interpersonal skills Has the ability to manage and reduce conflict Has strong written and oral communication skills Has sound organizational skills Has access to email, printing and mobile phone usage Has knowledge of the touring team’s culture and language (desirable) Can adapt and work well with people of other cultures and backgrounds Can act as a communication bridge between Hockey Australia and those teams who struggle with the English language Has a sound knowledge of the local area Forms sound working and professional relationships with the touring party Is flexible and can adapt quickly to new information Keeps calm and handles stress well Is reliable CHINESE TEAM LIASION SCHEDULE The Chinese Team will travel to and from the airport via coach to their residence Quest Apartments, North Ryde. You will greet the team upon their arrival on the 31st March at Sydney Airport and travel with them to their accommodation (liaison may use personal transport). The same process will be followed upon their departure. After arriving at the hotel, the liaison will facilitate the collection of the three (3) team buses to be utilised during the Chinese team’s time in Sydney. You will be required throughout this period to help the team settle in, answer any questions and escort them to dinner. On training and match days, the liaison will be required to drive one of the three (3) team buses. Tuesday 31 March 2015 Chinese Team arrives at Sydney Airport at 9:30am The Chinese Team have an afternoon training session at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from 4pm – 5:30pm. Wednesday 1st April 2015 The Chinese team have the following training sessions booked at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre: 9:30am – 11am 3:30pm – 5pm Thursday 2nd April 2015 3pm – 10pm The Chinese team will be playing a match at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from 7 pm-9 pm. The Liaison will aid the team in the preparation before the match and escort them to and from the venue. Friday 3rd April 2015 The Chinese Team have an afternoon training session at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from 4pm – 5:30pm. Saturday 4th April 2015 2pm – 6pm The Chinese team will be playing a match at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from 3pm – 5pm. The Liaison will aid the team in the preparation before the match and escort them to and from the venue. Sunday 5th April 2015 The Chinese Team have an afternoon training session at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from 4pm – 5:30pm. Monday 6th April 2pm – 6pm The Chinese team will be playing a match at Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre from 3pm - 5pm. The Liaison will aid the team in the preparation before the match and escort them to and from the venue.
