Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
Dear Friends:
We want to welcome all our visitors for this Easter weekend. Like
Christmas, Easter attracts many people to our parish. The feast of
Easter is the heart and center of our Catholic faith. If there had been no resurrection, as St. Paul reminds us in his First Letter to the Corinthians, we would have
no church. What we do as a church on this Easter feast is to celebrate life: the life
of the Risen Christ, the life of the newly baptized, and the renewal of life that has
taken place hopefully within each of us as a result of Lent.
With a focus on life, we also have a new found focus on hope for our future. One
day all of us will pass from this life to a life with God forever. Death is not an end
as we saw in the life of Christ. After his death, he rose to new life. Our life will
continue as we pass one day from our life on earth to our life with God in heaven.
The challenge for each of us is to celebrate and share the gift of life each day with
all the people who are a part of our lives. All of us have experienced people who
have no hope or have a bleak outlook on life itself. When you pass someone on
the street, and you say “Good day”, you know you have a problem if they respond:
“What is good about it?”
All of us face challenges; sometimes those challenges can be very difficult.
However, when you live your faith you celebrate hope and joy each day. Your attitude can change your circumstances.
All of us on staff wish you a very blessed and happy Easter. When you gather with
family and friends, I hope that you can renew all ties.

Parish Finance Council: I am looking for members, both men and women, for the Parish Finance Council.
The parish needs to raise about $4 million a year to make the budget, the debt service, and the mandated
appeals such as the Annual Catholic Appeal. The Council advises on the budget, prepares an annual report,
and reviews capital purchases. A background in accounting, financial planning or human resources is helpful to serve on the Council. If you are interested, please contact Fr. Haydock.

Jesus has died and risen but unfortunately the fully human disciples
have yet to understand.
The idea of Lenten discipline is to grow your discipleship. Continue
your spiritual growth with Deacon Ray! Ray has begun teaching
contemplative prayer on every-other Tuesday at 9AM and 6:30PM.
Next sessions are April 7th and 14th. People new to the experience
are finding it overwhelmingly beautiful.
On every other Thursday, join Deacon Ray at 9AM and/or 6:30PM
for a study of the Psalms. Next meetings are April 9th and 16th.
Our next Ministry Fair will be April 19th in the Pastoral Center
lobby. Learn about our dedicated ministries and then enjoy breakfast
with the Knights! Representatives from Religious Ed., the Youth
and Young Adult Program, Marriage Prep, Perpetual Adoration,
Health Ministry, Serra Club and Stewardship will be there to answer
your questions.
Save the Date! The 4th Annual Multicultural Mass and Lunch will
be May 31st! This year we are celebrating the cultures of Asia. If
your cultural heritage comes from Korea, China, Vietnam, the

ADULT FAITH FORMATION: The Pray Always Group meets again after Easter, Tuesday April 7th at 9AM or
6:30PM. The task is to support you in your prayer, and grow in your relationship with God.
The Bible study on Matthew’s Gospel concluded on March 19th. However, we’ll begin a study of the Psalms, the School
of Prayer April 9th. As in the past there will be two sessions on Thursdays, at 9AM and 6:30PM. If you missed Matthew
think about getting into the Bible study groove with the Psalms. Psalms has been the school of prayer for countless saints
and Christians, and give you an in-depth experience of prayer.
We still need couples to volunteer as marriage mentor couples. If you’re in a happy marriage and were to volunteer, your
help would be greatly appreciated. The mentoring workbooks and video are excellent and easy to use. Plus, I’ll see that
you have a good orientation to the process so you can feel confident when you work with a couple. If you feel called in
your heart to this ministry to model Christian marriage to an engaged couple, contact me at 425-977-4549 or at

Daily Prayer This Week
We now begin a celebration of the Resurrection of
our Lord for the next seven weeks - when we mark
the Ascension forty days after Easter and culminating
in the celebration of Pentecost on the fiftieth day after
Easter. This week, we begin that deepening realization of, and reflection upon, the meaning of the gift of
life we have received in God's raising Jesus from the
dead so that we might have eternal life.
Just as it difficult for many of our cultures to face the
reality of death, it is difficult to accept the reality of
life after death. St. Paul invites us to live in this passing world with our hearts set on the world that will
never end. This week let us try to open our hearts to a
felt sense of what a difference it makes that the tomb
is empty, that Jesus is alive, that he allows us to
recognize him in the breaking of bread, and that he
missions us to proclaim this Good News.
Each morning this week, we can pause for a moment
and simply thank God for our being alive today. Even
more, we can thank God for the life that Jesus won for
us. Throughout the day, and at different brief moments, we can remember that this is Easter Week and
ask to live more freely today, more gratefully. We can
name the grace in our own terms and in the context of
what we are experiencing, what gets us discouraged
or what gives us life. Overall, we want to live the
freedom we have been given. If death has no hold on
us, so many of our fears would melt away. If we realized our ultimate home is in heaven, our spirits would
be lighter and we would walk around more gratefully.
So, as we go through this week, we can let ourselves
believe in the Resurrection that was won for us.
“Lord, I believe in the gift of life you have given me
in the death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus.” We
can say this act of faith, or sing any of the wonderful
Easter songs in the back of our minds, as many times
as it takes to let ourselves feel the effects of Easter.
Perhaps we had a difficult Holy Week or Easter.
There might have been loneliness or family conflicts.
Perhaps we are facing a chronic illness or deep struggles with a loved one, or we are grieving the loss of a
loved one. These, and many other struggles can challenge our Easter hope and joy. This is the week to
place our trust in the one who is now alive, so that we
can live forever. We can ask for the gifts of hope renewed these days. In giving thanks, we can ask that
our hearts be opened even more to receive the gift of
his Spirit.

Youth and Young Adult Ministry
Our Youth and Young Adult Website is updated! Please refer to it for information regarding many ministry opportunities for 7th and 8th graders, high school students and young adults.
Life Nights for High School Teens...on Sundays, 7-8:30PM. We meet each Sunday night except for certain holiday
weekends. A full calendar is published online on our parish website.
Open Gym time has changed to 8:30-9:30PM to make time for our Life Nights (7-8:30PM, with exceptions as noted
on the website).
High school teens are also encouraged to be members of our “Peer Team” a peer leader for our high school group
or a “Core Team” member for our 7th and 8th grade group. This kind of leadership involvement is a real plus for college
and job applications.
World Youth Day is on!!! We’re going to Krakow, Poland in July 2016 for an amazing experience!!! A link to the

LAST RITES vs. VIATICUM: We still receive requests for last rites. People often wait until a person is about to
die before they call the parish. With a priest’s schedule today, it is hard to guarantee a priest will be available. The
church has changed its understanding of the sacrament. Instead of waiting until a person is about die, the church
encourages people to celebrate the sacrament while they are still alert and can participate in it. The church has replaced “last rites” with viaticum, or last communion. Any Eucharistic minister can offer viaticum to a dying person. However, sometimes at the end, people cannot swallow, so it would not be good to offer communion to them.
Please call the parish if someone is sick so we can schedule an anointing.
BLEACHERS: We need to replace the bleachers in the gym, which are 35 years old. They no longer meet code.
If a person had an accident on them, we would have problems with our insurance. So far we have saved $40,000
toward a $60,000 bill to replace them. If you would like to make a contribution toward the replacement of them,
you may drop it off at the Parish Office. Please mark the envelope “Bleacher replacement”.

FAMILY LIFE
St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank: The
SVDP food bank needs apple sauce (23oz),
salad dressing (Ranch, 1000 Island, etc.),
fruit cocktail, ketchup, tomato soup,
Velveeta cheese (small size). Thank you

MISSION CARNIVAL NEEDS: Our annual
Mission Carnival is on May 3rd. We
need new or gently used stuffed animals
and small prizes. If you can contribute,
please bring items to the Pastoral Center
labeled “Mission Carnival.” Thank you!
The New Life Group for singles,
widows/widowers and the formerly
married will meet on Saturday, April
11th after the 5 PM mass in the Pastoral

students put together personal care kits for underprivileged families (many homeless) who come
to the St. Francis House in Seattle. We are

items in the box in the church vestibule where the St. Vincent de Paul food donations are collected. The clothing

SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION
INFANT BAPTISM - Parents attend two sessions to prepare to celebrate this sacrament. We encourage parents to
attend before the birth or adoption of their child. Baptisms are normally celebrated at a weekend liturgy on the
first weekend of the month. Next preparation sessions are on Monday evenings, April 20th and 27th, 2015,
7-8:30PM in the Parish Office. The next baptisms are on May 3rd at 11AM, June 6th at 5PM, July 5th at
11AM and August 1st at 5PM. Please call the Parish Office to register.
MARRIAGE - Couples wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage should contact the parish at least 6
months prior to the desired date. Preparation for celebrating and living the sacrament is required.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK - is celebrated any time there is a serious illness or health crisis. Contact the parish
office to make arrangements. The sacrament is also celebrated periodically at a Sunday liturgy and on weekdays.
FUNERALS - Please contact the parish after a death, and before making arrangements with a funeral home.
CONFIRMATION - The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated yearly for those who are high school juniors or
seniors. Attendance at preparation sessions is required.
Adults who have not been confirmed may also celebrate the sacrament. Contact the Parish Office for

FIRST RECONCILIATION/FIRST EUCHARIST - Children are prepared for these sacraments after completing a
year of remote preparation in either the school or religious education program. Parents attend preparation
sessions for each sacrament.
