WELCOME to Trafford
An area rich in diversity...
The Borough is home to outstanding heritage
attractions, a range of shopping centres, superb
parks and rural areas and a very rich sporting
tradition.
The attractions include historic Dunham Massey,
one of the most popular National Trust heritage
attractions in the north west. A historic mansion
set at the centre of a magnificent 300-acre deer
park.
There are superb parks throughout the Borough,
cared for by dedicated ‘Friends of’ groups.
The area is also renowned for culture. It has an
impressive range of arts facilities and theatres,
including Altrincham Garrick, the Club Theatre
and Sale Waterside.
There is also the Imperial War Museum North
- which is next to the BBC’s new centre at Salford
Quays.
And the iconic Trafford Centre, one of the biggest
indoor shopping malls in Europe is in the borough.
Trafford can proudly boast as being the home
of the world’s most famous fictional street,
Coronation Street after it moved to a purpose-built
site next to the Imperial War Museum North.
Trafford takes some beating for anyone interested
in sport. It is home to the most famous football
club in the world, Manchester United, and the
County Cricket Champions 2011- Lancashire.
Backing this up is a wide array of well-established
grass roots sports clubs. Trafford was also the
official host borough for the London Olympics
2012.
It is no wonder that just over 229,700* people are
proud to call Trafford their home.

SUPPORTING LOCAL CHARITIES
Messenger Series consists of two editions with dedicated
editorial for Sale & Altrincham and Stretford & Urmston
offering a higher local story count than any other media.
Messenger has excellent relationships with local charities
e.g. helping to raise money for a custom-built motorised
wheelchair for a local boy and supporting the ‘Hearts
and Minds’ challenge, to raise £1m to build a school for
children with autism. In 2013 Messenger organised the
‘Talented Trafford’ competition, backed by local business
J Davidson, to raise money for the appeal.
FINGER ON THE PULSE
Experienced, local journalists with wide knowledge of the
area and extensive list of contacts produce news that is
relevant to the local community and don’t rely on press
releases.
CAMPAIGNING
Over the years, several successful campaigns have been
launched in direct response to readers’ concerns e.g.
Pothole of the week, Bag It, Bin It (to clamp down on dog
fouling), Road Watch (highlighting road safety issues).
FIRST CHOICE

showing more people interact with the Messenger than
anywhere else, reflecting the issues that are important to
our readers

groups and organisations which is reflected in the regular
sections/columns in the paper and online e.g. ‘Business’
page (Chamber of Commerce column); ‘Thought For
The Week’ (Local Interfaith community); ‘Education’
page (promoting the achievements of local schools and
colleges).
Every year used stamps are collected by readers for the
chosen ‘charity of the year’ and at Christmas and Easter
Messenger helps launch a toy appeal for the Children’s
Adventure Farm Trust and also works with the local Rotary
Club and Salvation Army with their Christmas appeals.

This is just a note to confirm our conversation earlier this morning
when I confirmed the success of our most recent advertising
campaign regarding lift and rise recliners. Our ad was situated
in an editorial about retirement homes and proved to provide a
large number of good leads that have led to a significant number
of confirmed orders.
Thanks again for your hard work and I hope our new campaign
for our carpet department is just as successful. Also, just a note
our 125 year celebrations were a great landmark for us and
supported in such a great way by the Messenger.

I have advertised with the Messenger for over 15 years, and
have always received a good and steady flow of custom
in response to our adverts. I feel it is an ideal medium to
attract local customers as I feel the readers are generally
the type who use the Messenger to source local products
and local companies to deal with.

The most important aspect of our relationship with the
Messenger has been our dealings with the advertising
sales representatives. I have found the representatives
who look after our account over the years to be both
professional and helpful, but most of all, accurate with the
information they have given to me. I think this is greatly
helped by the fact that many of them have worked at the
Messenger for a long time.
This results in a better service to me because of their
experience, and gives a continuity of service.
I would be happy to recommend the Messenger to other
businesses who are looking to advertise locally.
