LEST WE FORGET APRIL’S SANDBAG CHALLENGE BEERS ON THE BOARDWALK DISCOVER NEWS THIS MONTH BEERS ON THE BOARDWALK Beers on the boardwalk are sure to lure crowds at this month’s harbourfront festival. The Boardwalk Beer Festival will feature a wide range of appealing pilsners, hoppy pale ales, refreshing ciders and dry stouts from 20 craft breweries and cider makers. Sensational food will also be showcased at a range of stalls along the promenade. Each stall will see chefs and brewers working together to match the perfect foodie flavours to the right drop of ale. A token system will be in place to purchase tasting paddles and food. Tickets to the event cost $45 and include a tasting glass, a festival cap, 15 craft beer tokens, a meal token and vouchers to participating restaurants. The day of food, fun and flavours will be held on Saturday, April 18 from 12pm to 5.30pm. Building on last year’s collection of 750 crosses, Newcastle Museum will invite the community to send in the names of loved ones to add to the field of remembrance. To have names added to crosses you can send an email to swillcox@ncc.nsw.gov.au by April 17 with the serviceman or women’s name, dates of service or the conflict, rank, serial number and unit. People are also encouraged to send in a copy of any photographs they may have. In addition the museum will showcase war memorabilia in a separate exhibition called Newcastle on the World Stage. PAIRING FOOD AND WINE Quality drops from the Barossa Valley will be showcased at Nagisa when it hosts a five-course wine dinner on Wednesday, April 22. Nagisa’s head chef Chris Schofield has carefully crafted a delectable menu to match wines from well-known and nationally acclaimed wine label Peter Lehmann Wines. The restaurant will host Peter Lehmann’s Director of Sales Michael Every as guest speaker, who will be on-hand to answer any questions from guests. There will be two sittings on the evening – 6pm and 8pm. The menu boats a variety of delicious flavours with grilled kingfish, persimmon stuffed roast pork loin, ginger and houjicha braised duck breast and lightly chargrilled Wagyu scotch fillet. The wine and food pairing costs $110 and includes a five-course dinner with matching wines. APRIL NOVA CRUISES What’s happening this month?
