BY METRO
Hope Connections helps people with cancer and their loved ones deal with the emotional and physical toll that comes with
a cancer diagnosis. Our facility is located in a historic home where people affected by cancer can escape the clinical
environment to connect with and learn from each other. We provide support groups for people with cancer and for caregivers,
educational workshops that provide learning opportunities and mind/body classes that help rebuild strength and reduce the
high level of stress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Our programs are available to anyone affected by cancer regardless
of their cancer diagnosis, stage of disease, age, economic status, race, religion, sex or where they receive their medical care.
To learn more about Hope Connections for Cancer Support and our programs, visit our website at
Red line to Medical Center or Grosvenor Metro station. It is approximately 1 mile to
Hope Connections from either station. You can either walk or take Bus #30 or #46.

A Day in the Life of Hope
The phone rings and a scared voice relays the
crushing news that they have cancer. Like a deer
in the headlights, they are temporarily frozen by
the overwhelming reality of impending surgery,
chemo or radiation that will be a part of their life
for the foreseeable future. They are also terrified
that they will not survive.
It is our job to offer a measure of comfort and
hope that they are not alone and that we are here
to help them and their loved ones throughout
their cancer journey. We tell them about our
free programs and invite them to an orientation
where they learn how our support groups, mind/
body classes and educational workshops can help
them both emotionally and physically.
As people enter our home for the first time,
the reaction is dramatic. People arrive expecting
a clinical environment similar to the doctor’s
offices, clinics, hospitals and infusion centers
that have become part of their lives. Instead they
enter a historic home that makes them feel more
like they are visiting an old friend than another
medical appointment. The stress begins to fade
away as they are welcomed by a staff member,
volunteer or another participant who has been
touched by cancer.
Every Monday, the building is filled in the
early hours through midday with the newly
diagnosed, those going through treatment,
caregivers and post-treatment survivors here to
start their week off with gentle yoga. This is not
your typical yoga studio class. Our yogis gently

Celebration of Hope Honorees
Our annual Celebration of
Hope gala is set for Wednesday,
March 18, 2015 at the Park
Hyatt Washington, DC. At this
event, we honor an individual
Judy Deason
and a company that have been
extraordinarily supportive of our mission.
This year, we are delighted to present our
Celebration of Hope Award to Judy Deason,
Director of Administration, Washington, DC
Office of King & Spalding. When Gilda’s
Club Greater Washington, DC ceased their
efforts to open a facility in Washington, DC,
they generously gave their assets to support
our mission. One of those assets was Judy
Deason, who joined our Board of Directors in
OUR
MISSION
2009. A cancer survivor, Judy has been a tireless
advocate of those affected by cancer and of the
organizations that support people with cancer
and their loved ones. She is passionate about
our mission and has introduced many friends,
colleagues and business partners to Hope
Connections.
At this event we will be presenting our
Partnership Award to Capital Elevator Services.
An annual sponsor of our Celebration of Hope
Gala and Drive Out Cancer, Capital Elevator
secured and installed (pro bono), a commercial
grade stair chair in our facility so that the second
floor of our program space can be accessible
to all. We are very grateful for their on-going
support!
To help people with cancer and their loved ones deal with the emotional and physical impact of cancer
through professionally facilitated programs of emotional support, education, wellness and hope.

CELEBRATION OF
HOPE GALA
Wednesday, March 18, 2015
Park Hyatt Washington, D.C.
6:30 – 10:00 p.m.
Our annual celebration of
survivorship and those who
support our mission.
MARCH 18, 2015
lead the class through exercises and poses and
are adept at meeting participants where they
are physically. It is not unusual for someone to
practice chair yoga as they are physically unable
to get up and down off the floor. In addition to
reducing stress in the lives of these participants,
yoga can play an instrumental role in helping
those weakened by surgery or treatment to
rebuild their core strength. A wide variety of
mind/body programs are offered throughout the
week and participants are encouraged to try out
new programs to find what best works for them.
Support groups for people with all types of
cancer and, meeting separately, for caregivers, are
scheduled throughout the week, during the day,
and in the evening to accommodate participants’
busy schedules. We listen carefully to what our
community wants and needs and, when resources
allow, add programs to fulfill those needs. To that
end, in 2015, we have added a monthly support
group for those with cancers of the GI (gastrointestinal) track and a second monthly group
for women with ovarian or other gynecologic
cancers. All of our groups are facilitated by
licensed therapists who ensure that everyone
attending is welcomed, respected and has a voice.
Every day, we offer a smorgasbord of
programs for people affected by cancer. But the
most important thing we offer is a community
of people that share a common bond. Those
that pass through our doors are immediately
enveloped in the embrace of others who reach
out and offer encouragement, advice, support
and friendship. If you have been touched by
cancer, pay us a visit and become a part of this
wonderfully caring community known as Hope.

OUR PROGRAMS:
We require that everyone attend an orientation session in order to participate in a support group or mind/body program. You will meet
with a member of our staff or a program volunteer to hear about how these programs can help you better cope with a cancer diagnosis
and treatment. Orientation sessions are offered every Monday at 11 a.m. and the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
Please let us know you are coming by contacting info@hopeconnectionsforcancer.org or 301-634-7500.
Support Groups
Our support groups provide people with
cancer and caregivers with a place to

It’s giving me everything I need to get
through my treatment”
OUR PROGRAMS:
We require that everyone attend an orientation session in order to participate in a support group or mind/body program. You will meet
with a member of our staff or a program volunteer to hear about how these programs can help you better cope with a cancer diagnosis
and treatment. Orientation sessions are offered every Monday at 11 a.m. and the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
Please let us know you are coming by contacting info@hopeconnectionsforcancer.org or 301-634-7500.
Support Groups
Our support groups provide people with
cancer and caregivers with a place to
explore ways of coping with the stress of
a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Our
licensed clinicians help support group
participants learn how to take an active
role in their own health and well-being.

CELEBRATION OF
HOPE GALA
Wednesday, March 18, 2015
Park Hyatt Washington, D.C.
6:30 – 10:00 p.m.
Our annual celebration of
survivorship and those who
support our mission.
MARCH 18, 2015
lead the class through exercises and poses and
are adept at meeting participants where they
are physically. It is not unusual for someone to
practice chair yoga as they are physically unable
to get up and down off the floor. In addition to
reducing stress in the lives of these participants,
yoga can play an instrumental role in helping
those weakened by surgery or treatment to
rebuild their core strength. A wide variety of
mind/body programs are offered throughout the
week and participants are encouraged to try out
new programs to find what best works for them.
Support groups for people with all types of
cancer and, meeting separately, for caregivers, are
scheduled throughout the week, during the day,
and in the evening to accommodate participants’
busy schedules. We listen carefully to what our
community wants and needs and, when resources
allow, add programs to fulfill those needs. To that
end, in 2015, we have added a monthly support
group for those with cancers of the GI (gastrointestinal) track and a second monthly group
for women with ovarian or other gynecologic
cancers. All of our groups are facilitated by
licensed therapists who ensure that everyone
attending is welcomed, respected and has a voice.
Every day, we offer a smorgasbord of
programs for people affected by cancer. But the
most important thing we offer is a community
of people that share a common bond. Those
that pass through our doors are immediately
enveloped in the embrace of others who reach
out and offer encouragement, advice, support
and friendship. If you have been touched by
cancer, pay us a visit and become a part of this
wonderfully caring community known as Hope.

Hope Connections helps people with cancer and their loved ones deal with the emotional and physical toll that comes with
a cancer diagnosis. Our facility is located in a historic home where people affected by cancer can escape the clinical
environment to connect with and learn from each other. We provide support groups for people with cancer and for caregivers,
educational workshops that provide learning opportunities and mind/body classes that help rebuild strength and reduce the
high level of stress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Our programs are available to anyone affected by cancer regardless
of their cancer diagnosis, stage of disease, age, economic status, race, religion, sex or where they receive their medical care.
To learn more about Hope Connections for Cancer Support and our programs, visit our website at
Red line to Medical Center or Grosvenor Metro station. It is approximately 1 mile to
Hope Connections from either station. You can either walk or take Bus #30 or #46.

A Day in the Life of Hope
The phone rings and a scared voice relays the
crushing news that they have cancer. Like a deer
in the headlights, they are temporarily frozen by
the overwhelming reality of impending surgery,
chemo or radiation that will be a part of their life
for the foreseeable future. They are also terrified
that they will not survive.
It is our job to offer a measure of comfort and
hope that they are not alone and that we are here
to help them and their loved ones throughout
their cancer journey. We tell them about our
free programs and invite them to an orientation
where they learn how our support groups, mind/
body classes and educational workshops can help
them both emotionally and physically.
As people enter our home for the first time,
the reaction is dramatic. People arrive expecting
a clinical environment similar to the doctor’s
offices, clinics, hospitals and infusion centers
that have become part of their lives. Instead they
enter a historic home that makes them feel more
like they are visiting an old friend than another
medical appointment. The stress begins to fade
away as they are welcomed by a staff member,
volunteer or another participant who has been
touched by cancer.
Every Monday, the building is filled in the
early hours through midday with the newly
diagnosed, those going through treatment,
caregivers and post-treatment survivors here to
start their week off with gentle yoga. This is not
your typical yoga studio class. Our yogis gently

Celebration of Hope Honorees
Our annual Celebration of
Hope gala is set for Wednesday,
March 18, 2015 at the Park
Hyatt Washington, DC. At this
event, we honor an individual
Judy Deason
and a company that have been
extraordinarily supportive of our mission.
This year, we are delighted to present our
Celebration of Hope Award to Judy Deason,
Director of Administration, Washington, DC
Office of King & Spalding. When Gilda’s
Club Greater Washington, DC ceased their
efforts to open a facility in Washington, DC,
they generously gave their assets to support
our mission. One of those assets was Judy
Deason, who joined our Board of Directors in
OUR
MISSION
2009. A cancer survivor, Judy has been a tireless
advocate of those affected by cancer and of the
organizations that support people with cancer
and their loved ones. She is passionate about
our mission and has introduced many friends,
colleagues and business partners to Hope
Connections.
At this event we will be presenting our
Partnership Award to Capital Elevator Services.
An annual sponsor of our Celebration of Hope
Gala and Drive Out Cancer, Capital Elevator
secured and installed (pro bono), a commercial
grade stair chair in our facility so that the second
floor of our program space can be accessible
to all. We are very grateful for their on-going
support!
To help people with cancer and their loved ones deal with the emotional and physical impact of cancer
through professionally facilitated programs of emotional support, education, wellness and hope.
