Children’s Librarian Vacancy We are currently inviting applications from librarians who are interested in joining our team. We’re looking for a technologically savvy, forward-thinking librarian who loves working with children and families, is able to connect with families in a rapidly evolving landscape, and is capable of anticipating and preparing for library users’ future needs. He or she will be an integral part of our team, providing first-rate service and helping the library as a whole set and achieve goals. Our children’s department consists of two full-time librarians, a fulltime clerk, and a part-time clerk. All of our staff: Loves to learn and welcomes new ideas. Takes pride in providing excellent customer service. Is energetic, welcoming, helpful, friendly, resourceful, flexible, and eager to work as part of a team. Is organized, detail-oriented, and reliable. Communicates clearly and constructively. Looks for opportunities to serve and fulfill our mission. Is interested in technology and integrating technology with traditional services. Can stand, walk, crouch, twist, push/pull up to 75 pounds, and can lift up to 60 pounds. Major Duties: Cooperatively selects, purchases, and weeds children’s materials in all formats. Cooperatively plans, promotes, and conducts children’s programming. Provides outreach to organizations throughout the community, including participating in our pop-up library program. Assists in updating our web site, e-newsletter, and social media outlets. Assists in the daily operation and supervision of the library. Provides reference and readers’ advisory service for library users of all ages. Acts as a community resource for parents on early literacy skills and child development. Collaborates with staff on special projects. Participates in library, local, Monroe County Library System, and national meetings, projects, and initiatives as appropriate. Other duties as assigned. Special Qualifications Strong desire to work with the public and a commitment to children’s services. Passion for sharing literature and knowledge. Strong knowledge of children’s services, children’s literature, and child development. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable on the Monroe County Civil Service Librarian I or Librarian II lists or already have a permanent position as a Librarian I or Librarian II. Hours Full-time staff work 37.5 hours per week, including a regular night and the weekend rotation. Hours are flexible with the primary focus on the library’s needs and the position’s responsibilities. Wages and Benefits Starting salary is $38,772 per year. Annual benefits include 27 accruable vacation days, 12 accruable sick days, 9 paid holidays, and 2 floating holidays. Health, dental, and optical plans are available with employee contribution. Full-time employees are enrolled in the New York State Retirement System. Other benefits include disability coverage, a deferred compensation program, and support for continuing education and conference attendance.
