We are currently accepting applications to fill one
(1) Custodian position to be primarily responsible
for the care and cleaning of the Sheriff’s Office.
May also be assigned county buildings and related
facilities as needed; and do related work as required.
This positions require a Sheriff’s Department background check that will include: a personal history
statement, criminal check, and driving record
check. Applicants who successfully complete the
background investigation will then be scheduled
for a fit for duty medical examination. Successful
completion of all phases of the County’s testing
process is required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry-level class in the Custodian classification series. Employees in the class are responsible for performing a wide variety of duties such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, scrubbing and oiling floors; replenishing supplies, empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleaning restrooms; washing windows and walls; replacing light bulbs; cleaning and dusting books and shelves;
moving and arranging furniture and equipment for special events; and keeps simple records.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of duties such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, scrubs and oils floors;
dusting, waxing, washes and polished furniture and woodwork; replenishes supplies; empty and
clean waste receptacles; cleans restrooms; washes windows and walls; replaces light bulbs; polishes metal work; moves and arranges furniture and equipment for special events; takes care of equipment and materials used in the course of work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability To:
Read and write at the level required for successful job performance; clean and care for assigned
buildings and equipment; use a variety of janitorial equipment and materials; understand and carry
out oral and written instructions.
Knowledge Of:
Methods, materials and equipment used in building cleaning work; safe work practices.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
EDUCATION
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of responsible basic custodial and/or
cleaning experience.
