International School Manila d March 27, 2015 A weekly bulletin for Parents and Students For ATTENDANCE concerns, please contact the HS Office (Sam Ramos or Laurie Atilano) Tel: 840 8650 / 840 8653 Email hs@ismanila.org For GUIDANCE or IB/AP concerns, please contact Tina, Eloisa or Nyla Tel: 840-8655 / 840-8660 MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION: Dear Parents, Do you remember dancing the night away at your High School Prom? I want all our junior and senior students to have the same memory, so it is really important that they buy their tickets as soon as possible. With the holiday starting next week, we need to finalize arrangements with the hotel and right now we have not sold enough tickets to make it financially viable. We need students to buy their ticket by next Tuesday, so please encourage them to attend a great school event. Please note that Prom finishes at 11pm and the school is not responsibility for any student once they have left Prom. In this edition of the bulletin you will find our first edition of college acceptances for this batch of seniors. Many colleges will make decisions on or about April 1 and so this list will grow, though it does rely on our students reporting their offers in our college software program, Naviance. We are once again delighted with our seniors. Many of them have done exceedingly well in gaining entry to some of the most prestigious universities in the world. However the real success and indeed our focus as a school is to find the best fit university for every student. There are many considerations to think about with this process and I urge you to start early and to meet with your son or daughter’s school counselor. There are many factors that need consideration. Which country to study in? Should it be city versus a rural location? Climate factors are sometimes important for an ISM student who is accustomed to a tropical environment. There might be safety concerns, financial issues, specific course requirements and universities that specialize in different areas. Ultimately it is a complex process, but our school counselors are well trained and visit as many of the universities that they can, to get a real first-hand experience. We are also very fortunate to get many college and university visits to ISM and it is important that our students take the time to speak with the college representatives when they are. You can see a schedule for these visits as well as an overview of our counseling services on the ISM website, under Counseling. Another valuable site is the Counseling Departments own blog http://guidance.ism-online.org/ I would like to congratulate our seniors and trust that they have all found a “best fit” university for them as individual learners. It is important however that they finish this year strongly. We have just concluded IB mock Exams and the actual IB exams start on May 4, so now is the time for all seniors to work hard and to the best of their ability. There will be no bulletin next week due to the spring break holiday. Enjoy the break and I hope all our students come back refreshed and ready for the last eight weeks of school.
