HURSTVILLE SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL Maher Street, Hurstville 2220 9580 2695 9580 8984 hurstvills-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au http://hurstvillesouthps.com.au/ WARATAH NEWS – 2nd April, 2015 Easter Hat Parade Happy Easter Easter Raffle Wrapping the generously donated Easter eggs and Easter gifts by our fantastic parent community. Principal’s Message EASTER HAT PARADE EGGSTRAVAGANZA! Our Easter Hat parade and raffle on Wednesday morning was the best parade ever! There were many imaginatively decorated hats celebrating this time of giving on show at our annual parade. It was so good to see so many parents and grandparents there to watch their children go around with the classmates. The two bunnies, Mr Madden and Mr Mak, did an incredible job for the whole two hours! They connected with the audience through their energy and creativity continuously ‘high-fiving’ appreciative members of the audience and making the receiving of hampers of eggs a great joy! They did this while being wrapped up in a furry white and pink suit on what turned out to be a very humid day- gentlemen, for services to school and country, I have been authorised to immediately award you membership of the ‘White Rabbit Society’. Benefits of membership to this selective group go way back to Lewis Carroll’s era will be revealed in the fullness of time. Well done also to Mrs Dimovska for her leadership and microphone work in keeping the program entertaining and moving along, should you ever get the urge to try another field, spruiking could be the answer, but not yet Hurstville South does not wish to lose you! To the P&C committee and in particular Mrs Scallone, a huge thankyou, I believe that early estimates of the money raised are in excess of $2000! This is a record and given that the eggs were generously donated by our wonderful parent community it is a real show of support as all funds will go directly back into continuing to improve our already great school. There are always huge numbers of parents who come up and help out and I would like to thanks the teams who came in to wrap the baskets as well, we really appreciate your support. Congratulations to all the students for their participation and to our school captains, Tim and Sanjana for their involvement and leadership! The Human Right's Commission outlines that 'the campaign's goal is to close the health and life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and nonIndigenous Australians within a generation.' Student's learned that in some areas of Australia the life expectancy is 10 to 17 years less for Indigenous people and discussed some ways that the gap can be brought closer together. Our Aboriginal Culture and Language students from year 1 created a chalk drawing with Aboriginal patterns. The students from year 2 created a gap with an arrow to show that they would like the gap to be closed and also sat in formation for the word 'gap'.
