STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS
Ever have times when you just want to scream out
in frustration, pain or anger? Of course you do.
Sometimes things just seem overwhelming. Jesus
even experienced these moments while he was in
the flesh. Our second reading is very short, but gives
us a powerful reminder of our ever-present God and
a glimpse into the meaning of suffering. The reading
refers to times Jesus offered prayers “with loud cries
and tears to the one who was able to save him from
death & he was heard because of his reverence.” In
times of distress, how do we approach God - with
reverence or with anger, humility or arrogance? Do
we even think to take our anxieties & troubles to the
Lord who is the source of healing & peace? God is
always there for us in good times and bad. St. Paul
also gives us some insight into the meaning of our
suffering, telling us that in times of difficulty Jesus
learned obedience to the Father’s will which allowed
him to grow in perfection, ultimately becoming the
source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. We
are not destined to be the source of eternal salvation
for the world, of course, but surrendering to & obeying
the Father’s will brings us closer and closer to being
who God created us to be that we might share in the
heavenly banquet. As you enter into the stewardship
of time in prayer, reflect on your openness in cooperating
with God’s will & the attitude that you bring to prayer.
