INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS These instructions are designed to assist students who are applying for an IDCI Legends IN Design Scholarship. 1. In order to be eligible for an Interior Design Coalition of Indiana Legends IN Design Scholarship, a student must be a permanent resident of the State of Indiana, be enrolled in an accredited professional or postprofessional interior design degree program, must have completed at least the second year in the program at the undergraduate level, and must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The IDCI Legends IN Design Scholarships are merit-based scholarships. 2. The Scholarship Application Form may be downloaded from the IDCI’s website: www.idcindiana.org 3. Provide all requested information. If a particular item does not apply to you, use “NA”. If additional space is necessary, attach a separate sheet. Indicate which question is being answered on the separate sheet. 4. Complete application packages must be completed and postmarked by: Midnight, Thursday April17, 2015 Applications postmarked after this deadline or are not complete in any way will be considered ineligible. It shall be the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that complete application packages are received by the IDCI prior to the stated deadline. Students are encouraged to submit the applications as soon as possible. The IDCI assumes no responsibility for circumstances that may lead to the receipt of incomplete, late, or otherwise nonconforming applications. 5. Complete application packages shall be submitted through email to Mike Shanley: Email: Mike.Shanley@forms-surfaces.com 6. Application packages must include: a. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member in your department of architecture. This letter should specifically address your academic credentials b. An original official current transcript of your grades certified by the university. c. Your signature and the signature of your department chairperson. (electronic signatures are not acceptable) d. An original Portfolio Submission. (see item 10 below) e. A typewritten essay (see Item 13 from the Scholarship Application). f. A .PDF file of all applicant-completed portions of the entire submission (Application, Essay, Portfolio Submission). This PDF will not include the Letter(s) of Recommendation or the Transcripts. 7. Portfolio Submission: Submit a maximum of 12 portfolio pages demonstrating your design work to date. All design work submitted must be original work prepared by the applicant. By submitting the images, the applicant certifies that they depict his/her original work. Your portfolio submission should highlight specific projects/endeavors that you have prepared as coursework or as professional work experience. The images should supplement your written essay, and may be referenced in your essay. 8. 9. Submitting more than 12 portfolio pages will disqualify an applicant. If your portfolio submission includes a presentation of your credentials in a professional work environment, a letter of recommendation from an architect other than the faculty member identified in 6.a above may be included. This letter should be from a practicing architect or other professional. All letters of recommendation must be enclosed in sealed envelopes, each bearing the signature of the person making the recommendation across the back flap of the envelope. The letters of recommendation and the transcripts must be included in the complete application package submitted by the student. Letters or transcripts mailed or emailed directly to the IDCI that are not in the application package shall be rejected. 10. All material required of the complete application shall be packaged in one sealed envelope and postmarked prior to the stated deadline. Applicants shall note that if they desire confirmation of the receipt of their application package, they will need to send their application package via a service that provides tracking and/or receipt of their package. The IDCI will not provide individual acknowledgement of receipt of applications. 11. By signing the application, the applicant certifies that he or she is a permanent resident of the State of Indiana. The IDCI may require additional proof of residency be furnished prior to the final decision to award a scholarship. 12. The IDCI has no quota or limit on the number of scholarships to be awarded. A minimum of one $1,000 scholarship shall be awarded. A selection board, chosen by The Board of Directors of the IDCI will make the selection of the scholarship recipients by April 30, 2015. Selection will be made on the merits of the application and not on the financial need of the applicant. Winner of the scholarship must be able to attend the Legends IN Design lunch on May 13, 2015 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. All correspondence from the IDCI will be directed to the student’s present e-mail address indicated in the application unless directed otherwise.
