The New Orleans section is actively engaged in many technical
related activities that are fun and rewarding. Check the calendar of events in this Section Bits to see what may interest you. In April, many
volunteers from the New Orleans section participated in the hugely successful
Greentech conference and Region 5 annual meeting. I was very proud of the
great job that the volunteers did to plan and execute a wonderful experience
for all participants. Hundreds of students showed up in New Orleans to compete in the student competitions and there was fun had by all. UNO was the
host university so they could not compete, but other local universities fared
well. ULL took first place in the robotics competition, and LSU also finished in
the top 3. It was clear that these students put a tremendous amount of time
and effort into these projects. Very impressive!! I was also very impressed to
see some of the volunteers who brought their teenage children along to help
make the competition a success. Seeds for future engineers were clearly planted! Thanks to all of you who volunteered to help make our section proud.

PACE
2015 Contact
PACE (Professional Activities Committees for Engineers) is a grassroots netLeo Holzenthal
work of IEEE volunteers and committees organized at the section and chapter level in the United States with support from their respective regions and
IEEE-USA. The goal of the PACE Network is to promote the professional interests of IEEE's U.S.
members as well as provide a mechanism for communication of members' views on their professional
needs. IEEE-USA's success is attributed largely in part to all the hard work out forth by volunteers
from the PACE Network. In return, the IEEE-USA National PACE Committee is working to better
serve your interests with more programs, better communication, and more opportunities for professional development.

Petition Candidates for IEEE President
IEEE rules allow for candidates not nominated by an organizational unit to petition to run for office. To do so, they must collect the signatures of some fraction of the eligible IEEE voting membership. (Note: Signing a petition does not
obligate you to vote for the person; it simply means that you believe they should
have a place on the ballot.)
There are two petition candidates for IEEE President in the 2015 election cycle,
Wanda Reder and Charles Rubenstein. If you wish to support the petition of a
candidate, you can go to www.ieee.org/petition and select "Annual Election Petitions". You will need an IEEE login and your Member Number to be able to do
so.
