See you at International symposium 2015 : The future of Park management in Awaji Island!
2015 is 15th anniversary of Awaji Flower Expo: Japan Flora 2000. Since then, Japan has been continuously facing a
number of challenges including but not limited to, population problems, such as aging society and decline in birth
rate, flagging economy, and The Tohoku earthquake. To prepare for an upcoming aging society, it is vital to take
effective actions across various different areas.
During this challenging time, our proposal, “Future environmental island plan of Awaji”, was approved as
Comprehensive Special Zones for Local Revitalization in 2011. It is extremely meaningful that we will host an
international symposium, titled “Future of Park Management” in Awaji Island as a part of commemorative events
of the 15th anniversary of Awaji Flower Expo.
The main theme of this symposium is “symbiotic stage with nature”. We expect that this symposium will provide a
great opportunity for attendees to interactively think about “Future of Park Management” – appealing and attractive
public parks and their management- in this Awaji Island.
We will welcome everybody, not only those who work for park management, but also non-professionals. Save the
date for a series of stimulating and intellectual discussions and presentations. We look forward to seeing you in
Awaji Island in May 2015.
Philosophy and theme:
Nowadays, urban parks are expected to function as places for various and more advanced purposes, including but
not limited to: (1) to aid in formation of local community and regional development, (2) to provide a place to local
communities for health promotions, and (3) to function as a center to maintain local security and safety at a time of
disaster.
Moreover, public parks are highly appreciated throughout the world since they have been greatly contributing to
city branding, promoting tourisms, conserving biodiversity, improving an environment, and preventing global
warming in local communities.
How and who can maintain, develop and utilize park spaces? Is there effective method to increase visitor
satisfaction and promote use of public parks?
We are gratefully inviting many of you from all over the world, hoping that this international symposium can
provide a great opportunity to discuss “Future of Park Management” – Fascinating public parks and their
management- from the perspective of its management. On this occasion, we wish we can further enhance standards
of park management, disseminate Japanese park culture and our state-of-the-art park management to the world
though this symposium.
