Association Speak
“IIJS is a platform to share information and ideas”
Industry Insight
“IIJS is a key event in the diamond industry calendar”
Paul Rowley, Executive Vice President
Global Sightholder Sales Proprietary Ltd., De Beers Botswana
What opportunity does India offer as
a global manufacturing hub?
India already plays a leading role in the world
of diamond cutting and polishing but it still
has a number of other opportunities to be
even more inuential. Initiatives such as the
development of a Special Notified Zone
should help as they open up more
international opportunity. The levels of
domestic expertise and the innovative
approaches undertaken by the Indian industry show that the country is
alive with potential on the global stage.
2. What are the strengths of Indian Manufacturers? What
transformation have you seen in the last 6-8 years?
Indian manufacturers have many strengths, including strong
productivity, efficiency, skill levels, innovation and the clever use of
technology. In the last few years there has been progression in the
Indian industry with further application of technology and Indian-based
diamantaires working with a wider range of goods, as skill levels in
India are as high as anywhere in the world. Indian manufacturers are
also increasingly active in global markets and their operations are
becoming more transparent and professional in their approach. The
customer qualification criteria for De Beers' new Global Sightholder
Sales contract have played a significant role, as there are more
sightholders from India than any other country in the world and the
customer criteria mean that they will be among the most transparent
and financially robust diamond companies in the world.
“The Calcutta Gem &
Jewellers Welfare
Association (CGJWA) heartily
congratulate GJEPC on their
32nd Edition of IIJS. The new
concept of 1 time registration
for all 3 shows is an excellent
idea and we warmly endorse it.
We have great expectations from Asia’s 2nd
largest jewellery exhibition, as it will provide a
platform for industry leaders and stakeholders to
exchange information and ideas on various
aspects of the industry in its current scenario.
I convey my best wishes to the GJEPC,
participants & visitors for extending their support in
making this event a grand success.”
Ashok Bengani
President - The Calcutta Gem &
Jewellers Welfare Association
“This year, the one quick
registration offer
gateway to visit 3 big shows i.e.
IIJS 2015, Signature IIJS 2016
& IGJME 2016 has proved to
be a very good hassle-free
facility.
All our association members look forward to
visiting this very important show as we get access
to a wide range of products to choose from in
order to cater to our retail business needs.”
Ravi Shanker Gauri
Heads of Domestic Associations, Satna
Overseas Visitors Speak
“The new 'Make In India' initative by the central
government will boost the confidence of new investors”
Chandu Siroya
Siroya Jewellers LLC, Dubai
“Indian jewellery
manufacturing is
entering a new phase with
a lot of international players
interested in setting up
bases to manufacture in
India. The new push of
'Make In India' by the
central government will
also boost the confidence of the new investors. With
new production techniques coming in, gold
jewellery will become more affordable and will be of
international quality, if not better. The handmade
plain gold jewellery made by bengali workers is of
the finest workmanship.
Over the past few years, these workers have started
new methods of production and are combining
handmade jewellery with modern concepts to make
fusion jewellery which is unique and will have a lot of
local and International demand.
I have been attending IIJS since inception and it is
becoming bigger and better with each passing year.
I am expecting new suppliers to show their products
this year.
The spirit and culture of India is evident at IIJS and
the warmth extended in this show makes it unique.”
Mehul Lodhiya
Anria Ltd., London
3. What is your opinion on the Indian gems & jewellery market vis-? vis other major consuming centers?
India has huge potential as a consumer market. India is very different
from a consumer market such as the US, which is mature and wellpenetrated; and from China where a smaller number of retailers have a
very high share of consumer sales.
In India there is a very strong jewellery tradition and the country's
consumers are increasingly recognising the beauty, value and
emotional significance of diamonds. The Indian market has major
growth opportunities, as there is a young consumer-base and the
potential for millions of new diamond consumers as economic growth
continues and Indian consumers have more disposable income to
spend on jewellery. There is also a very big opportunity around
branded and differentiated diamond jewellery products in the Indian
consumer market. Overall we expect India to be one of the main
engines of future growth when it comes to consumer demand for
diamond jewellery.
4. What are the current challenges for the industry? How do you
think they can be overcome?
Consumer confidence is a major challenge for the industry and it is
vital that buyers are always made aware of what they are purchasing
so they can make an informed choice. With this in mind, undisclosed
synthetics are one of the main issues that the diamond industry is
addressing. De Beers has developed technology that enables all
synthetics, simulants and treatments to be detected and this plays a
key role in responding to this challenge. However, everyone in the
diamond industry must take responsibility for ensuring that they fully
disclose what they sell.
Another key challenge relates to corporate transparency and financial
robustness. The diamond trade requires significant amounts of
funding as it deals with a high value product. It's therefore very
important that diamond companies show financiers that they have
transparent structures and can remain financially solvent. Businesses
in the diamond industry are definitely moving in the right direction
regarding transparency and financial strength, and De Beers' Global
Sightholder Sales customer qualification criteria mean that
Sightholders and Accredited Buyers are focusing on the highest
international standards.
5. IIJS has played a pivotal role to trigger demand for the Indian
industry. What according to you is unique at IIJS?
IIJS is a key event in the diamond industry calendar and it is unique as
it brings all the retailers in India to meet, network and do business. It is
also a crucial platform for non-Indian companies to come to India, to
meet domestic retailers and to make important connections that can
open up new markets and opportunities for both Indian and
international players. The Antwerp and Israel pavilions at the show are
good examples of this. IIJS therefore plays a very important role, both
for the Indian sector and for the international trade.
Visitor’s Voices
“IIJS offers buyers a wider choice of designs, cost
effective products and unmatched services”
“I look forward to better
opportunities this year,
with additional exhibitors being
featured at IIJS 2015.
This will give more exhibitors a
chance to present their unique
and trendy collections.
Ever year IIJS brings something new to the table
and with more people interacting, more ideas will
be exchanged.
This year, I will continue to source handcrafted,
ethnic and contemporary jewellery for Lambyas.
Since the current market conditions have
improved with prospective buyers growing in
numbers, the forthcoming buying season should
be good.
My best wishes to all the exhibitors of the IIJS
2015.”
Sathish Munoth
Lambyas, Chennai
“It is good to see that
more participants will
be featured this year. It will also
be a good idea to circulate the
new entrants list separately.
IIJS has helped me find new &
more competitive sources to
fulfill my requirements. Connecting with suppliers
from all over India under one roof is a great
opportunity to understand the overall business
dynamics of the country. I would like to see more
of international vendors, particularly the ones
exhibiting coloured stones.
I also look forward to seeing light weight jewellery
in diamonds, pearls, corals, rubies etc.
I hope we see a surge in demand this season &
gold rates also remain stable.”
Dilip Lagu
Lagu Bhandu, Mumbai
“India has a
specialised skill set
in jewellery manufacturing
which can only be
matched by a few when it
concerns design, creativity
and price. It becomes the
best choice for
wholesalers like us to offer
our customers in the UK-unmatched prices and
value.
In the UK, we have representation from every
community of South Asia, so it becomes vital to
attend a show like IIJS where exhibitors specializing
in craftsmanship are featured from every corner of
India.
I have observed that the Indian manufacturers have
focused their energy more on innovative design,
competitive pricing, exible payment options and
customization. I am sure the Indian manufacturers
have evolved over the last 6-8 years keeping
abreast with new trends and techniques in
manufacturing, processes and machinery to create
world-class products.
I have been visiting IIJS for over 10 years, but as a
UK wholesaler, for the past 6 years. I look forward to
seeing what the manufacturers have to offer this
year. A lot of them work very hard to ensure they
offer something new every year as many of the
wholesalers and retailers around the world are
visiting the show to explore the same.
IIJS represents the largest gathering of Indian
manufacturers which makes it very easy for visitors
as they can meet quite a few companies in one
show and make their selection. I also feel IIJW is
one of the unique and extraordinary features in the
IIJS.
And finally, the warm welcome extended by the
GJEPC and the exhibitors, attending this show really
feels like a reunion of family and friends!”

I am very pleased that we
finally got a booth at IIJS
which is an exceptional platform for

Our main objective to participate in IIJS is to promote

by presenting our high quality products.
IIJS offers exhibitors like us, a strong B2B platform to

The main objective for us to
participate in IIJS is to get in touch
with genuine clients from all over India. IIJS is very
important to me as I get a deeper understanding of

“IIJS is a platform where we
create new business
opportunities and develop strong
personal relationships with both, our
existing and new clients.
Participating in IIJS is always
important as it is the premier show of
the Indian jewllery industry. It's a show where
opportunities are created for both exhibitors and visitors
to grow their businesses.
After the grand success of “JHUMKI” in IIJS 2014, this
year we will be presenting a wide variety of “BANGLES”.
Our latest collections feature new concepts, designs
and ideas. We are positive this collection will be well
received by all the visitors. We have prepared our
collections based on the current demand of the
market.”
Jitendra Jodhani

“The key objective to
participate at the IIJS is to
create a very strong presence of
Swarovski and generate high
demand for the Swarovski Created &
Genuine Gemstones products
throughout the industry. Another goal
is to support our branding partners at the retail and
consumer levels in India, through our ingredient brands
“Made with SWAROVSKI GEMSTONES”, “Made with
SWAROVSKI ZIRCONIA” and “Made with SWAROVSKI
MARCASITE” and to shape business opportunities
through direct association with the customers.
Each year, Swarovski launches a collection of new
genuine gemstones and created stone cuts and colors
to stimulate creativity and push boundaries in jewellery
and watch design. We are always delighted to unveil
our latest product launches to the Indian market at this
show. IIJS provides us with the perfect platform to
promote our new developments right in the very heart of
the industry. The novelties presented at IIJS all reects
the very essence of Swarovski's quest for creative
perfection.
We plan to launch 7 new innovations at IIJS 2015 for our
customers in India. We will also present our latest trend
and design publication, the Swarovski Gem Visions Tiara & Headband Special.
Last year, Gem Visions' select panel of industry experts
identified bridal jewellery as a burgeoning design topic.
As a result, we became intrigued by the art of making
tiaras and headbands.
Ever since adorning the heads of ancient royalty, the
fashion of wearing a tiara to mark a special occasion
quickly spread out into the wider worlds of the rich and
famous. It is not surprising that the bridal sector has
now chosen to embrace the tiara, which perfectly
complements its own heightened sense of celebration.
To achieve this, the tiara has become the perfect setting
for our genuine gemstones and created stones.
The Trend Themes: Interpreting the tiara or headband,
or rather reinventing it for the 21st century, presents a
creative challenge to jewelry designers, who must
approach this topic from radically different points of
view. The modern diadem can express contemporary
classicism, romanticism or even minimalism – based
on this, Swarovski's trend experts identified four themes
for bridal jewelry: Daydream Princess, Natural Affairs,
Urban Minimalist, and Cultural Roots. Many of our highly
valued customers in India created tiara designs
matching these trend themes, which are presented in
the publication. We are excited to hand out the book at
IIJS 2015.”
Rajendra Jain

“We feel proud to be the part of
IIJS which gives credit to India
by its own performance. We supply our
jewellery pan India and also export to
UAE, UK & USA. We expect through our
participation in IIJS, it will help us boost
sales.
“IIJS gives Antwerp exhibitors the opportunity to connect
with a large number of Indian companies.”
Nele Bouchier
Head of PR & Communications department AWDC
Antwerp World diamond Centre (AWDC)
1. Why is AWDC present at
IIJS every year?
Antwerp and India have
enjoyed strong trade
relations since the
beginnings of the modern
diamond industry. Both
countries remain
strongholds in the industry.
Antwerp is the world's
leading diamond trading
center with 84% of the world's rough and 50% of the
world's polished diamonds being traded in the city and
India is still the polishing capital of the world.
Today, we see that 86 % of Belgium's total exports to
India consists of diamonds. This is an extraordinary
figure that pays testament to the strength and depth the
trading relationship between our countries.
2. What are your expectations at IIJS? How important
is IIJS in comparison to other shows?
IIJS is without a doubt a 'must-attend' show for the
Antwerp diamond companies. It is the number one
trade show in India. But more than that, the added
value of IIJS is that it gives Antwerp exhibitors the
opportunity to connect with a large number of Indian
companies. The show plays a vital role in helping our
firms to establish commercial relationships with their
Indian counterparts since the Indian diamond and
jewelry market is widely represented at the show.
As always, the Antwerp diamond companies will
showcase Antwerp's unique variety of high quality
polished diamonds for which the Belgian industry is so
well known. In other words, we will again be
showcasing “Antwerp's Excellence” at this year's IIJS
show.
3. How do you foresee this year for the industry?
The industry is facing a number of challenges at the
moment. Disappointing retail sales in the beginning of
the year, slower than expected growth in certain
markets, the pressure of high rough prices and polished
prices that are not aligned with that development,
slimming profit margins and reduced financial liquidity
have conspired to create a somewhat depressed mood
in the global diamond markets and in the various
diamond trading and manufacturing hubs.
However, there are positive signs: demand and trade is
improving steadily in the US as well as European
markets, and in general terms, it seems that the various
elements along the pipeline have re-engaged in
dialogue. That is a crucial signal to the entire industry
and a positive indication that allows for optimism about
the rest of the year.

Exhibitor Voices
"Besides being the second largest show after IIJS, Signature IIJS is
a well-timed show and attracts very serious buyers from across India"
We have been participating in Signature
IIJS for the last three years.
We are India's only home-grown brand
dealing in loose solitaires. Unlike other
players, a solitaire is not just a commodity
but a positioning statement for us.
Signature therefore, offers us an
opportunity to build our brand in the B2B segment. Signature
IIJS is important for our company as it is a second largest
platform after IIJS and offers an opportunity to meet national
and international buyers. We will share our plans for the current
year with our clients at Signature IIJS and work towards
maximising mutual gains.
Our emphasis has always been on solitaires. We have also
ventured into solitaire jewellery. The design creations are
minimalistic and are centered around the solitaires.
Each piece of Divine Solitaires' jewellery bears a signature logo.
The packaging is innovative and tamper-proof.
As a new entrant our focus is currently on lightweight jewellery.
We also customize statement pieces on specific orders
received from our partner jewellers.
For the last couple of months, the prices of polished diamonds
have softened. The potential customers and the retailers have
adopted a wait and watch approach. They are waiting for the
right time to buy. The demand therefore has been steady.
Indigo Jewellery has been participating in
Signature IIJS, ever since it relocated to
Mumbai.
The Signature IIJS show has made a mark
for itself in the Indian jewellery industry as
one solely for serious buyers. As an
exhibitor, we are always keen to meet new
and serious buyers at the show.
Moreover, Signature IIJS is the first trade show in the calendar
year and is visited by top retailers, chain stores and
independent stores from all over the country, making it an
important trade show.
Kosha Fine Jewels was formed by four
passionate jewellers who have a
combined industry experience of about 40
years. The word kosha, as per Hindu
Vedic philosophy, is one of the five layers
of one's atma (soul). The name also
represents its partners – the Kotharis and
Shahs.
Kosha specialises in illusion and micro-pavé set jewellery. We
deal in a wide range of products such as earrings, rings,
bracelets and necklaces.
We are delighted to be given an opportunity to present our
exclusive products at this show. Signature IIJS will provide us a
platform to not only showcase our craftsmanship but also
provide us with the opportunity to strengthen existing business
networks while developing new ones.
We would like to thank Signature IIJS for providing us with this
opportunity and also extend our good wishes to our
contemporaries participating in this show. We are an
immensely growing industry, with a brilliant future and together,
we can take our country to great heights by working
unanimously.
At each show, our merchandising team launches special
collections for the forthcoming season. This Signature IIJS, our
focus is on contemporary bridal jewellery which will appeal to
jewellers who wish to woo the modern bride. The bridal
jewellery segment is a large space for a manufacturer like us
but it is undergoing changes as the modern Indian bride
prefers jewellery that is contemporary but yet retains a hint of
Indian tradition.
IIJS & SIGNATURE IIJS - Leading the way!
Apart from this, we plan to unveil a few unique lightweight
jewellery collections.
IIJS continues to be the first preference among other
domestic exhibitions followed by the Signature IIJS show.
Indian jewellery retail is destined to grow. Despite various
challenges at policy levels coupled with the ever changing
consumer buying behaviour, I remain positive about the growth
of jewellery sales in the organised retail sector. All the
manufacturers who believe in creating new products will have
a good show.
The demand for solitaires can be classified under two heads –
for adornment and for investment purposes. The popular sizes
in the jewellery segment ranges from 40 cents to 1.50 carats.
Consumers prefer to buy bigger stones i.e. sizes above 2
carats for investment.
The Signature IIJS show, as observed in the past, attracts
possibly fewer but very serious buyers from across India. It
would be useful to attract more clients highlighting the fact that
the show is well timed. Clients can plan well in advance for the
marriage season as well as for festivals like Akshaya Tritiya.

WELCOME TO
THE BIGGEST
JEWELLERY SHOW
2015
3RD TO 6 TH
AUGUST
The India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) is a
unique platform envisaged to showcase a diverse
range of jewellery on the runway and establish the
design strength of Indian artists. A rst-of-its-kind
event in the world, this jewellery extravaganza
organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export
Promotion Council (GJEPC), has over the years, seen
some of the most reputed jewellery designers and
brands displaying their high-end pr6t, couture and
bridal collections on the ramp.
Some of the most celebrated as well as emerging
jewellery designers from top design institutes in India
have used this platform to dazzle the audience with
their innovative experiments in contemporary forms.
India is a veritable treasure-house and is known for its
rich traditional jewellery art forms - be it Jadau,
Kundan-Meena, Temple, Bridal, Thewa or Tribal
jewellery. And in a tting tribute to the eclectic
jewellery crafts of the country, the IIJW helps
designers promote the expertise of local arts by
blending fresh and futuristic ideas on the runway,
making it the most sought after haute design
destination for fashionistas, jewellery a cionados and
national and international buyers.
Every year, the IIJW sets trends for the coming season.
Last year, 24 jewellery houses and designers displayed
an array of dazzling collections that took the stage by
storm. The innovative pieces for the arms and hands
included Bazubands (armlets), Manchettes (long
cuffs), Haath Phools (wrist and hand ornaments) and
oversized bracelets. Rings too were the focus of
attention for most designers who presented single, full
and double- nger ring sets with large diamonds and
coloured gemstones in breath-taking patterns. Tassels
found a new interpretation in pendants, chandeliers as
well as statement cuffs. Chand baalis (crescentshaped earrings) and novel open-ended necklaces
with oral engravings ruled the runway, while the
shoulder ornaments got a complete makeover. Adding
glamour to the magni cent event every year are scores
of top models, celebrities and actors, including Sonam
Kapoor, the GJEPC's brand ambassador.
The IIJW over the years has showcased jewellery
designers from across the globe namely Stephane
Webster, Boucheron, Farah Khan Ali, Birdhichand
Ghanshyamdas, P.C. Jewellers, Nirav Modi, Ganjam,
Golechas, Gitanjali, P.N. Gadgil, Pallavi Foley, Moni
Agarwal and the likes.
The IIJW as a property, now in its 6th edition, has
proved to the world that globally, India is one of the
prime destinations for jewellery with design talents
that are absolutely world class.
