Like many of you, I have been presenting at a party when someone decides to be the
“negative Nelly” and ruffle my feathers with a comment or concern about the product I am
selling. If it hasn’t happened to you, give it time…it will! Unfortunately this is a small part of
the business but something that is easily handled when you are prepared.
Here are five simple ideas that that will help keep the negativity at bay or possibly change its tune:
Start your party off with a bang! Make sure you let everyone know how much fun you want them
to have and how you know they will love the product you will be showing. Often a fun and
upbeat start to your party is all it takes to keep “Nelly” in check.
Never argue with someone who makes a negative comment, this will just increase the negative
vibe being shared! Instead, defuse the negative influence on the group by moving forward
positively with an up-beat presentation. Don’t let them diminish your excitement! “Just keep
swimming”… with a smile!
On rare occasions someone may bring up a real critique of “In A Pikle,” its products and possibly its
representatives. When that happens remember to use the three “S” responses to the criticism.
These responses help reduce tension between you and “Nelly,” plus keep the rest of the guests
comfortable and excited about the product. Also, responding to criticism in the following ways
will gain you the respect from the party guests, including “Nelly.”
Support their concern – When you recognize a concern people naturally become less
defensive. Try something like…”I am sorry, I can see how that would make you really
upset!”
Quickly provide a Solution. “We aren’t perfect but we strive to have perfect Customer
Service. That is covered under our warranty and we are happy to send you out a
replacement.”
Stop them with a question. “Would it be alright if I spoke with you personally after my
presentation is over so I can resolve this for you?”
Exhibit self-confidence by standing in front of your display, not behind it. Always maintain eye
contact with the person with whom you are speaking and know your “In A Pikle” products,
procedures and customer service resources. When knowledgeable and proud about the
company and product you represent, you will feel more comfortable in resolving and
overcoming any objection.
Kill them with professionalism, courtesy and gratitude. Thank “Nelly” and all the guests for their
feedback and their opinion regardless of whether or not you agree with them. Sometimes they
just want a little attention and to be heard. When you give them some “honey” they feel
appreciated, validated and more apt to be your customer.

To help me stay motivated, I set goals: small,
easily attainable ones and large, much
harder to achieve. As I cross off the little one, I
see progress, which is exciting and keeps me
motivated to reach the bigger ones, making
it even more exciting when reaching them.
The most important thing I try to do is to try
and stay positive. I like to start my day with an
hour of finding inspiration by reading
motivational quotes, daily devotions, or
mantras, it starts my day off right and puts me
on the right path for the day.
I make sure I set goals for each and
every month, I write them down and
reward my self if I make them! I also share my
goal with my family and keep track of it so I
am accountable for them! My husband and
kids keep me motivated to do well with my
“In A Pikle” business, they love being
involved and seeing what’s new and up and
coming! I like to keep it fun and exciting!
After becoming physically disabled in 2006
from a broken neck and back I was
socially withdrawing due to not working.
Through finding “In A Pikle” I literally found
a new life. I have new friendships and a
social life again as this job is one I can
physically handle and one I absolutely
love and believe in with all my heart! Now
I've been able to promote!

Why hasn’t my hostess’
order shipped?
Great question! We are
happy to help. The most
common reason an order has
not shipped is because it is tied
to the party and the party has
not officially closed.
There are two ways to ship an
order; by default it is shipped to
the hostess once the party is
closed. This option saves our
customers on shipping. The
other option is Drop-Ship.
Although this costs more,
customer’s orders are shipped
within 2 business days.
It is important to know that a
party must be officially closed
by the representative in their

Parties left to ‘close’ on their
own are actually EXPIRED.
