Over the last 4 years Kirklees Council and the University of Bradford have worked with 9 European partners
on an EU INTERREG IVB project entitled INNERS, which has explored a range of Innovative Energy Recovery
Strategies within the urban water cycle (http://inners.eu). This event is the first in a series of European
roadshows designed to showcase the results of this wide-ranging project.
The morning session ‘INNERS and People’ will commence at 10.00 with an opening welcome from the
Mayor of Kirklees.
This session will include presentations on a social housing project in Dewsbury where heat is recovered from
the interaction of soils with the infiltration of rainwater, a sustainable swimming pool in the Netherlands
heated from wastewater, the heating of 92 residential apartments in Belgium using energy recovered from
the public sewer, and EU policy on energy use and recovery within the urban water cycle.
The afternoon session ‘Energy recovery and re-use’ will start at 13:15.
This session will include presentations on the activities undertaken by water industry professionals and
modelling experts. These will include work on the DEAMON reactor, DEUGD (black/greywater separation to
enhance biogas recovery) projects, waste water plant supplied local heat grids, EOS (Energy Optimisation
and Benchmarking System) for Wastewater Treatment Plants and sewer network heat recovery modelling
for the city of Antwerp. The event will finish at 15.00.
