Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards
Introduction
Most university entrance scholarships are awarded on grid and calculated using your top
6 U and M level courses and do not require an application. The following scholarships,
however, do require an application. Consult the guidance website and use the
scholarship links. At the time of printing, specifics for 2014-15 had not been finalized;
thus, the dates and amounts listed are based on earlier years. Access the websites and
see your counsellor for more details. Read eINFO and Ontario College Reference Guide
2014-15 for additional scholarship information and updates.

How to apply for a scholarship:
For awards and scholarships that require a nomination from the school, please ensure
that you put your name forward to a Guidance Counselor for consideration. For
example, for the Loran or for the Queen’s Chancellor, we are only able to “sponsor” 2
students. We may need to decide between candidates’ submissions therefore, you will
need to get your application into the Guidance office at least 2 weeks prior to the
deadline.

2.
3.
4.
5.
Obtain an application (from the website, university, college, company, your
guidance counsellor). Important: university entrance scholarships are generally
based solely on marks and thus require no application.
Prepare a list of awards, certificates, letters of reference, work experience, etc.
Create a résumé to include chief interests, extracurricular activities, community
achievement, significant accomplishments, paid jobs, volunteer work.
Think about a budget, the money you’ll have, how much you’ll need and your
expected costs. This is important if you are applying for bursaries.
Do all your work in rough copy. Check spelling, grammar and sentence structure.
6.
7.
Be aware of deadlines! These are YOUR responsibility!
If you are approaching a person for a reference letter, be sure to give them at
least ONE week’s notice.
Note: A representative will be at Innisdale Secondary School in May to
discuss financing your post secondary school education and OSAP.
However, you can go to osap.on.ca and use the Aid Estimator to determine,
approximately, how much of a loan you will receive.

Additional Scholarship Information:
All university and college campuses have their own set of scholarships. Some are given
out based on financial need while others are granted for community service and
academics. Be sure to research the campuses you plan to attend; do your research
early. Many of the deadlines are BEFORE offers are sent out so the money schools
offer many inform your decision. Keep in mind that many scholarships, for example,
most university entrance scholarships are awarded on the basis of your entrance marks
and do not require an application.
