MELIKSAH UNIVERSITY FACULTY of ENGINEERING and ARCHITECTURE CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT INTERSHIP GUIDELINES 1. 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 2. 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 ORGANIZATION OF INTERNSHIP The internship cannot be done at any organization which does not have at least an engineer graduated from the any of the fields of Civil Engineering. The department does not have any responsibility finding an organization for students. If there is a quota assigned buy organizations/companies to the Faculty, it is announced by the Department. If the quota is not enough for applying students, the internship can be done at another organization found by student and accepted by the Department Internship Committee. The internship can be done oversees. It is recommended for the international students to do their internship in their own countries or another country outside Turkey if they can arrange it. Students should apply to the organization where they want to do the internship using “Internship Application, Acceptance and Approval Form”. The students who are accepted by the organization then bring the acceptance form to the Department Internship Committee. Carrying off the writing which includes acceptance of students to summer practice or “Internship Application, Acceptance and Approval Form” is the responsibility of students. Organization of internship must be accepted by the Department Internship Committee before a student begins his/her internship. INTERNSHIP DOCUMENTS Internship report and it’s all additions must be approved by the engineer working at related department. Internship report must be written based on the Internship Report template (posted on the Department web page) and complying with the spelling rules. The internship report must include the comments on the practical knowledge gained during the internship period and the relationship between the internship work and the theoretical knowledge from school. Students have to write about every work which they do at the workplace and put drawings about the work in their reports. If necessary; some photocopies, drawings, photographs, computer printouts and so on should be added to the report. Students have to comply with principles specified in the Internship Report Preparation Guide, given in the Internship Report template. Faculty members designated by the Department Internship Committee may inspect the students in their internship workplace. The Internship Evaluation Form is confidentially filled and approved by organization at the end of the internship period. The name, title, position, the Chamber of Civil Engineering registration number (if any) of the engineer who approvedthe internship report must be indicated on the form and the evaluation form is put into an envelope. Closed and approved form can be posted by the organization or sent by the student to the Department Secretary. The Internship Evaluation Form must be delivered to the secretary of the Department for the Internship Report to be evaluated by the Committee. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure the required documents to reach the Department. The Internship Report must be submitted by signature to the Department Secretary before the date which is announced by the Faculty Internship Committee. The Department Secretary delivers the internship documents (the Internship Report and Internship Evaluation Form) to Department Internship Committee within 10 days. The internship reports are evaluated by the end of fall semester. Work accident and occupational disease insurance (for SGK) for students will be covered by the Faculty. Students are required to complete all the procedures for internship at least 15 days before the beginning of internship for the insurance to be started along with the internship. The students who do internship abroad must provide a document from the organization showing the internship content and duration to the Department Internship Committee besides the Internship Report and Internship Evaluation Form. Students who do internship abroad must submit all the internship documents in English. Students who have not completed the internship cannot graduate from the program. OTHER TOPICS For transfer students, the internship which was fulfilled during their study in their previous school can be accepted (at most 24 working days) or not by the decision made by the Department Internship Committee. Students who are doing double major in the Department must do internship for at least 24 working days in the second major. The internship can only be done on the dates outside the period of courses and exams and on the dates which are determined by the Faculty Internship Committee. In special cases, for students to be allowed do internship during semester periods, they must have been completed 8 semesters and a decision by the Department Internship Committee is required. The internship-II cannot be done before completing the internship-I. 4. SUMMER PRACTICE TOPICS Topics for internship-I listed below but the topics are not limited by this list. Construction site in General, site layout and project work aplication works covers the needs to be done. First of all, preparation of working conditions on construction sites, determination of business management organization, manufacturing and application-oriented needs (employee, business machine, various instruments, Lab material etc.) detection is examined. Ground studies, aplication, construction machinery, material supply and features, topographic studies, excavation and filling works, formwork, concrete and fill jobs, joinery, plastering and paint-whitewashing-related information is collected. These jobs are located all or any portion of it is done in official or private enterprise. Topics for internship-II listed below but the topics are not limited by this list. Surveying, design, organization, development applications, business management and programming, feature and cost accounts associated with the acquisition and application of skills in matters of official or private business is done in place. The student made the collection of data related to the project, the implementation of the project's execution, check, matters to be complied with regulations and learns the procedure.
