It can be downloaded from Android Play Store. 15 cr PMJDY accounts opened so far New Delhi : More than 15 crore accounts have been opened since the launch of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in August last year. The key objective of this scheme is financial inclusion to provide banking and financial services in affordable manner. The scheme got overwhelming response from the public as more than 15,000 crores have been deposited in these accounts. Executive Director of Indian Bank, Raj Kumar said even though it is a zero balance account, the account holders have started operating these accounts. PM’s remarks at launch of Social Security Schemes New Delhi : The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, invoked the poetry of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore to state that the poor do not need support (sahaara), but strength (shakti). He was speaking at the launch of three social security schemes: Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and Atal Pension Yojana, in Kolkata. The schemes were launched in simultaneous functions at 115 venues across the country. “It is not my prayer that you will save me from difficulties Give me the strength to overcome the difficulty Do not take away my burdens or console me Give me the capacity to bear my burden,” the Prime Minister said, quoting from Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The Prime Minister said Kolkata had been chosen for the launch of these schemes because, to quote Shri Gopal Krishna Gokhale, “what Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow.” The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi interacting with the people after launching the Social Security Schemes, in Kolkata on May 09, 2015. The Prime Minister said that it was indeed a matter of great pain that 80 to 90 percent of the people in India do not have access to insurance and pension. He said that the fruits of development must reach the poorest of the poor, and therefore, the Union Government had launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana under which 15 lakh accounts had been opened. Now, he added, Jan Dhan was being taken a step forward to Jan Suraksha with the launch of these social security schemes. He said Jan Dhan Yojana helped bank the unbanked, Mudra Bank would help fund the unfunded, and these schemes would help secure the unsecured. He said the schemes had been launched on trial basis since May 1st, 2015, and 5 crore, 5 lakh people had enrolled for them so far. Camp for PMJJBY and PMSBY Organized in Rashtrapati Bhavan New Delhi : The Rashtrapati Bhavan organized a camp for residents and workers of the President’s Estate to facilitate them to apply for the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojna (PMSBY). The camp was organized on 7th May, 2015 in association with the State Bank of India and United Bank of India. The two schemes PMJJBY and PMSBY have been launched by the Prime Minister of India on 9th May, 2015. Both the schemes will have one year insurance cover, renewable from year to year. PMJJBY and PMSBY provide a total coverage of Rs.2.00 lakhs. While PMJJBY will cover all the savings account holders of the age group 18-50 for death due to any cause, PMSBY will cover all the savings account holders of the age group 18 to 70 for accidental disability or death. The Premium for PMJJBY is Rs.330/- per year and for PBSBY is Rs.12/-. MoU between India and Seychelles on renewable energy cooperation New Delhi : The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Renewable Energy Cooperation between India and Seychelles in March, 2015, during the visit of the Prime Minister to Seychelles. The objective of the MoU is to strengthen, promote and develop renewable energy cooperation between the two countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. The MoU will also help in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of renewable energy. Orientation Training of Hajj 2015 Conducted India, Iran sign MoU for development of Chabahar Port New Delhi : India and Iran have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the strategically important Chabahar Port in Iran. The MoU was signed by Minister for Shipping and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Iranian Minister for Transport and Urban Development Abbas Ahmad Akhoundi in Tehran yesterday. A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said that with the signing of MoU Indian and Iranian commercial entities will be able to commence negotiations for finalization of a commercial contract. Under the contract, Indian firms will lease two existing berths at the Port and operationalize them as container and multi-purpose cargo terminals. The availability of functional container and cargo terminal at the port will provide Afghanistan’s garland road network system alternate access to a sea port. It will enhance Afghanistan’s overall connectivity to regional and global markets significantly and provide a fillip to the ongoing reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in the country. The port located in Sistan-Balochistan Province on Iran’s southeastern coast is of great strategic utility for India. It will get sea-land access route to Afghanistan bypassing Pakistan. United States has been asking India and other countries not to rush into doing business with Iran as Washington is yet to work out a deal with Tehran on the latter ’s contentious nuclear programme. The port will be used to ship crude oil and urea, saving India transportation costs. Strict action against people stashing black money abroad: Jaitley New Delhi : Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said government will take harsh measures against persons those who have stashed unlawful money abroad. Moving the Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets (Imposition of Tax) Bill, 2015 in the Lok Sabha for consideration and passing, Mr Jaitley said the Bill intends to penalise the concealment of foreign income and provides for criminal liability for attempting to evade tax. The minister said a time frame will also be given for compliance to tax evaders. He said once the time frame will be over the penalty amount will also go up. Mr Jaitley said in the case of wilful attempt to evade tax the punishment would be rigorous imprisonment from three to 10 years. Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda supporting the Bill said this is not going to be effective and lead to hardship for law abiding citizens.
