IU Health Pathology Laboratory News Bulletin April 6, 2015 DOS Updates Disaccharidase Analysis—Discontinued Mayo Test effective 3-26-2015, replaced by Disaccharidase Tissue to ARUP Disaccharidase Tissue—New ARUP send out test, effective 3-26-2015 Biopsies of small bowel by endoscopy. Place two 5 mg biopsies of tissue on the wall of a small, tightly-capped plastic tube without any supporting media or an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Freeze within 2 hours of collection. Ship on dry ice. Method Spectrophotometry; TAT 2-6 days. Duchenne Musc Dystophy M—Discontinued Athena send out test, replaced by miscso to ARUP. Duchenne Musc Dystophy F—Discontinued Athena send out test, replaced by miscso to ARUP. MDMA Urine –Discontinued send out test, no replacement MRSA PCR—Effective April 3, the IUHPL Molecular Lab will be switching MRSA PCR assay to the BD Max StaphSR assay. This assay includes extended detection for methicillin-resistant and susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and MSSA) accurately identifies MRSA strains with the novel mecC cassette and new MREJ types along with mecA dropouts that can cause MRSA false positives. Collection requirements and ordering in Cerner remains the same. Narcolepsy Genotyping—New send out test to ARUP, effective 3-26-2015 Preferred container Lavender, Yellow ACD A or B is acceptable. Send refrigerated whole blood. Method PCR/ Flourescence Monitoring; TAT 11 days NMR Profile with Lipids—Discontinued Mayo send out test effective April 8. Replaced by Mayo send out test NMR Profile. NMR Profile—Preferred container Lavender. Send refrigerated plasma. Method NMR. The new Mayo test does not include the lipid panel; just the particles. If lipids are desired, order NMR Profile and the in house test Lipid Panel SerPl. This test will not be orderable in Cerner until April 8. Order as a Miscso until then. Organic Acids Comp Ur QN—discontinued send out test to USCD-Biochemical Genetics. Platelet Antibody ID Panl—Discontinued test. Please contact blood bank with questions. TCT Reference Range Changes: TCT changed from 12.2 - 18.8 seconds to 10.7 – 16.8 seconds, effective March 31. The normal range chart on the DOS at iuhealth.org/pathologylab/test-information has been updated. Biochemical Genetics Lab Closed Effective April 3 Effective April 3, 2015, the IU Pediatric Biochemical Genetics Laboratory ceased operations. Results for specimens received in the laboratory prior to and including March 27, 2015 will be provided in the usual manner. Urine should be sent immediately after collection to IU Health Pathology Laboratory Send Outs): Please place these 3 orders in Cerner: 1. Orderable in Cerner = Amino Acids, urine (AACIDUR): Requires MINIMUM 1 mL, prefer 2 mL 2. MiscSO Mayo test code OAU – Organic Acids Screen, urine (put this information in the order comment): Requires MINIMUM 4 mL, prefer 10 mL 3. MiscSO Mayo test code MPSSC – Mucopolysaccharides (MPS) Screen (put this information in the order comment). Requires MINIMUM 10 mL urine One urine sample with at least 25 mL may be collected and sent to IU Health Pathology Laboratory Sendouts. The urine must be freshly collected and not be frozen. Mayo Medical Laboratories REQUIRES ONE FROZEN URINE SAMPLE FOR EACH TEST! Testing is performed in different labs at the facility AND the specimens cannot be thawed, split and shared.
