The Jazz Sudbury Emerging Artist Showcase is run in conjunction
with the Jazz Sudbury Festival, the second weekend in September
(jazzsudbury.ca) in Sudbury Ontario at the Grace Hartman
Amphitheatre.
As a group or single performer, all you have to do is enter a 3- to
5-minute video for your chance to win $1000 and a performance on
stage at the Jazz Sudbury Festival.
Here’s How It Works
1 Make a video of your performance (3 to 5 minutes)
2 Upload it to www.contest.jazzsudbury.ca
3 View it online, and share it with your friends
4 A panel of expert judges will select the best three entries (finalists)
5 The winner will be selected based on ability, musicality, originality
and live performance, determined by a combination of judges
scores from the audition video submission and the live performance
PRIZE SUMMARY

Three finalists will each receive $500 and a live performance at the
Festival Launch Event/Headliner Announcement Event 3 June 2015,
plus Jazz Passes to the festival, 11 and 12 September 2015
The Emerging Artist Showcase winner will receive an additional
$1000 prize, the coveted Sigy Born Award, and a performance as
the opening mainstage act at the Jazz Sudbury Festival 11
September 2015

The Showcase guidelines are included below in a convenient stepby-step format that will help you get from your jam space to the Jazz
Sudbury Festival main stage!
Eligibility
Performers must:
• currently reside in the province of Ontario
• submit a video with exact band personnel for live performance
• appear in only one submission
• currently not be signed to a major recording contract and not
have appeared professionally at other festivals
• obtain performance rights for non-original compositions where
necessary
Step 1: select a song
• an original composition is preferable if possible (not mandatory)
• song choice must fall into the jazz music genre (jazz, swing, bebop,
fusion, funk, Latin jazz, blues, etc.)
Step 2: make a video
• 3 to 5 minutes in length
• live performance recording (no over-dubs or additional
instrumentation in post-production)
Step 3: agree to rules/upload video
• go to contest.jazzsudbury.ca to upload your video by 15 May 2015
at 11.59 pm
• complete and submit the online release form
Step 4: judging
• submissions will be reviewed by a panel of music industry greats
• website visitors will be able to view and comment on their favourite
video
• the panel will narrow the submissions down to three finalists who will
be invited to perform at the Festival Launch Event
• the act that scores highest on a combination of video submission
and live performance will be declared the winner
• winner will be announced at the Jazz Sudbury Festival Launch Event
and invited to perform as opening act at the Jazz Sudbury Festival

OFFICIAL RULES
Agreement
By entering this contest it means that
you fully and unconditionally agree to
these Official Rules and Procedures,
which are final and binding in all
related matters.
Finalist requirements
All participants selected for the
final round of voting will be invited
to perform at a special launch
event in Sudbury (3 June 2015) and
receive a $500 prize (pending their
live performance at the event),
where the grand prize winner will be
announced. Finalists will be provided
with travel and accomodation.The
grand prize winner will also perform at
the Jazz Sudbury Festival on Friday 11
September 2015.
General conditions
Jazz Sudbury reserves the right to
cancel, suspend and/or modify
the contest, or any part of it, if any
factors impair its integrity or proper
functioning, as determined by Jazz
Sudbury in its sole discretion. Jazz
Sudbury, in its sole discretion, reserves
the right to disqualify any individual
it finds to be tampering with the
submission process or the operation
of the contest or to be acting in
violation of these Official Rules or
any other promotion or in an unfair,
dishonourable or disruptive manner
and void all associated submissions.
Notification
If your submission is chosen for the
finalist round, you will be notified at
least two weeks prior to the event.
Rules and Regulations
The winner of the previous year’s
Emerging Artist Showcase is not
eligible for entry into the current
year’s contest
Employees and relatives or spouses
of an employee of the Jazz Sudbury
Festival are not eligible to participate
The video submission must not contain
footage, images or artwork not
created by the entrant(s)
The video must not contain material
that is inappropriate, indecent,
obscene, hateful, defamatory,
slanderous, illegal or libelous
By entering the Showcase, you grant
the Jazz Sudbury Festival the right to
display the video on the Jazz Sudbury
website and on any other website for
public viewing
The video will not be visible to visitors
of the website until it has been
reviewed and approved by the
website administrator
All individual musicians appearing
in the video must complete the
Musician Release Form (available
at jazzsudbury.ca or by calling
705.673.7770)
If you are under the age of eighteen
(18) you must have a parent or legal
guardian complete and sign the
appropriate section of the Musician
Release Form
Signed forms should be scanned and
