AQUATICS
Ages 3-11 yrs
American Red
Cross Learn to Swim
Program
The JCC’s aquatics programs are based on the
principals and methods established by the American
Red Cross. The American Red Cross program is
progressive; each skill builds on the skills mastered
in the previous level, therefore it is important and
necessary to successfully complete each level in
progression.
Essential swim and safety skills are taught at each
level; skipping or omitting levels may result in your
child missing vital skills that will help them advance
to the next level. Swimmers are separated by age;
Parent-tot for infants/toddlers 6 months – 36
months with their parents, Pre-School Levels for
children ages 3 – 5 years old and Youth Levels for
children ages 6 & up. This separation allows children
to learn in a relaxed, non-competitive environment
with children of their own age and ability.
Progress reports are handed out at the end of
every session informing parents which skills were
accomplished and which need continued progress
as well as the recommendation of the next level to
enroll in.
Make-up/Refund Policy: We realize that there
are schedule changes and situations arise that may
cause you or your child to miss a class, but to ensure
a quality experience for both your child and the
other children in classes, the JCC does not allow
make-ups for missed classes.
Parent/Tot - Ages 6 mos-3 yrs
Parent-Tot
This program is specially designed for infants and
toddlers 6 months – 36 months. Parent participation
allows you to share this experience with your child.
We explore water adjustment, body awareness,
coordination and safety through use of games, songs
and repetition. All infants and toddlers must wear swim
diapers or secure plastic pants over a cloth diaper. No
disposable diapers are allowed. There is a maximum of
one child per parent.

PRESCHOOL - 2 & 3 year olds
We believe that young children learn best in an
environment which stimulates self-expression and selfdiscovery. Children need inspiration, time to discover
for themselves and delve into big concepts. Gan Ami
teachers respect each child as an individual, strive to
remain flexible with their curriculum and note the
children’s needs, responding with changes as necessary.

Gan Ami
Early Childhood Education
We value the whole child
MIND: Our progressive curriculum encourages children to question and discover.
Learning arises naturally from situations that allow for teachable moments.
BODY: The Discover CATCH program nurtures a love of physical activity and
encourages healthy eating.
SOUL: Core human values such as responsibility, dignity, kindness, community,
tradition and respect are integrated into our daily activities.
Early Childhood
BEGINNINGS - 6 weeks-23 months
Our infants and toddlers are exposed to materials and
toys that challenge and engage their curiosity; rich
textures, fascinating fabrics, light and shadow are daily
discoveries. Infants follow their own schedules. Toddlers
transition into group activities. All programming is
developmentally appropriate.
MEQUON CAMPUS
GAN AMI
Located in the
Harry & Rose Samson Family JCC
6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd.
We value family
Family engagement is a key component to our school. Kehilla (community) is
an important Jewish value that we strive to maintain at our school through
family holiday programs, fostering family connections and strong home-school
communication. Our Faculty partners with parents to provide children with a
supportive network in which to explore themselves and the world.
We value our traditions
Jewish values and ethics are at the core of our program. At the same time, we
welcome and encourage the diversity that makes our school unique. Gan Ami is a
school centered on the value that every individual is created in the image of God.
We proudly teach Jewish values — such as charity, kindness, and repairing the
world. In addition, children celebrate Jewish holidays and Israeli culture through
food, song and story.
• 3 year olds have weekly free swim. K4 students have
weekly swim lessons.
• Shin-Shins (young Israeli Emissaries performing a year
of service) serve as our Hebrew specialists in our 3 and
4 year old programs.
We value professionalism
After a four year period of study and transformation, our school was honored
to receive national accreditation from the Jewish Early Childhood Education
Initiative (JECEI). Gan Ami is one of only seven schools selected in the United
States and the only school in Wisconsin to receive this recognition. JECEI
was founded to transform early childhood education, to create the highest quality
programs steeped in Jewish values and to generate model schools of excellence
across the country.

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) affects more than 6.3
million people in the world. This disease is a motor
system disorder which can cause involuntary tremors
in the body, rigidity in limbs or joints, slowness of
movement, or instability in a person’s posture. The
disease can severely affect a person’s day-to-day
activities such as simply rising up from a chair. It has
been proven that exercise assists in the strengthening
of muscles, improvement of flexibility, and continuous
mobility despite the disease. Exercise will also
improve balance, prevent joints from stiffening,
improve cardiovascular fitness and control weight.
In an effort to support our community with the
disease we are offering the following three programs:

Jewish Education
Back to the Sources: The Second Aliyah
The huge wave of immigration to Palestine between
1904 – 1914 is known as “The Second Aliyah.” This
was an expressly Zionist immigration as opposed to
the previous wave of immigration, “The First Aliyah”
(1882-1903). This was an expressly Zionist immigration.
The immigrants, many of whom fled anti-Semitism and
economic hardship in Eastern Europe, came to build
a Jewish Homeland. They built the land, founded the
Kibbutz Movement, created the first Jewish Defense
organizations which later became the Haganah and the
Israeli Army, revived the Hebrew language, and were at
the forefront of the movement to create a Jewish State.

The Holocaust and the Arts
As counter intuitive as it might be, the Arts played a key
part in the Holocaust. In the camps, in the ghettoes,
and in the midst of unfathomable suffering, the victims
of the Nazi war on the Jews found strength in the arts.
We will be examining the role of the arts in this horrific
period in our history.
Speaker: Jodi Elowitz
Expressions of Life: Art and Artists of the Holocaust
Wednesday, Mar 11, 2015 7:00 PM
14+
Special guest lecturer Jodi Elowitz, from the Center for
Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of
Minnesota, will present a program exploring art, artists
and the Holocaust. In her talk, she will give an overview
of the various types of art produced in the camps,
including “official art” demanded by the perpetrators;
“tolerated or unofficial” art commissioned or produced
in the camps for sanctioned events; and “clandestine”
work that was made either as a form of resistance or
as an act of bearing witness. She will also highlight
the stories and work of individual artists of the Shoah
– both those in the camps and post-Holocaust artists.
Her lecture is sponsored by the Nathan and Esther Pelz
Holocaust Education Center and is co-sponsored by the
Harry & Rose Samson Jewish Community Center.

German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields. An astonishing
account of the role of German women on the World War
II Nazi eastern front, powerfully revises history. Drawing
on decades of archival research and fieldwork across
Europe, America, and Israel, Wendy Lower explodes the
myth of German women merely holding down the home
front during the war and exposes these women not only
as plunderers and direct witnesses, but actual killers
perpetrating the horrors of Holocaust.
