Hello 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Shacklette Shark Parents! THE ANNUAL KPREP TESTING IS ALMOST HERE! THE NEW KPREP TESTING DATES ARE MAY 15-22! LET’S HAVE 100% ATTENDANCE ! IN THIS ISSUE KPREP: What’s It Really All About? KPREP: What Academic Areas Will My Child Be Tested In? KPREP: What Can I Do As A Parent To Help My Child Do Their Best On This Test? In a little over 4 weeks, the entire 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student body will be taking the annual KPREP statewide accountability test. And while our teachers and your child are working diligently to review the academic content from this year, I thought that I would start sharing some KPREP parent prep information every week until the test begins on Friday, May 15-Friday, May 22, 2015. The goal of each parent prep issue is to help decrease any stress that you may have about your child taking this accountability test. You may be asking yourself, “What is this KPREP test really all about?” Well, according to the Kentucky Department of Education, KPREP, which stands for Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress, is an “ accountability system that is designed to provide in-depth information about the performance of students, schools, districts and the state as a whole”. KPREP is a way of measuring the effectiveness of schools and districts to ensure that we are preparing your child to be proficient and prepared for lifelong success. While many may not understand it entirely or agree with the KPREP system, it is not going away. So here at Shacklette, the entire administration team and staff are committed to making certain that your child is well informed, equipped, and prepared to achieve KPREP proficiency. And this year, we are making concerted and intentional efforts to ensure that you as a parent, are also well informed, equipped and prepared to help your child reach proficiency. During the next several weeks, please pay close attention to all information that your child brings home and respond accordingly. Also, we are asking that your child has a 100% attendance between Friday, May 15 and Friday, May 22, 2015. I know that as a Shacklette family, we can reach this goal. (Please note that due to election day, there is no school on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.) In order for your child to reach their highest academic testing potential, KPREP prep must be a team collaboration between home and school. Below are some tips that Ms. Wahl, one of our 3rd grade teacher agreed to share with parents. Ms. Wahl wants to encourage you as a parent to: 1) 2) 3) 4) Make certain that your child has a peaceful and good nights’ sleep. Bring your child to school on time everyday. Remember, we would like 100% attendance. Before your child comes to school, encourage them with positive words that make them feel special. Stress the importance of your child focusing during the test, answering all the questions so that there are no blanks, and remind them to use their time wisely throughout each timed part of the test. 5) Encourage your child to relax and answer every question to the best of their ability. We strongly encourage your support and collaboration during this years’ KPREP testing. Please check our website, Facebook page and your child’s folder each week leading up to the test for KPREP information, tips and how you can prepare your child to demonstrate proficiency on this very important accountability test.
