Rockin’ Reptiles
RAPID CITY, SD - Gators, snakes, reptiles...oh my! The Journey Museum and Learning Center is pleased
to announce its next Learning Forum slated for Sunday, March 29, titled ‘Rockin’ Reptiles’, presented in
partnership with Johnny Brockelsby and Reptile Gardens.
Rockin’ Reptiles will begin at 2 p.m. on March 29 in the Journey’s Wells Fargo Theater. Johnny Brockelsby and
Reptile Gardens will give a presentation of their popular tourist attraction and provide live animals to set the
atmosphere. Families are invited to enjoy this unique learning experience and get up close and personal with some
live animals that they may not see every day.
Brockelsby is the Public Relations Director of Reptile Gardens, is the winner of the 2015 South Dakota
Department of Tourism Ben Black Elk Award, and also serves on the Journey Museum Board of Directors.
Beginning his career at Reptile Gardens at an early age, young Johnny B began working for his father and starter of
the reptile park, Earl Brockelsby, by working in the Giant Tortoise yard for one day a week at age 8. When he was
14, he even had a very brief stint in the Gator Show. He quickly realized that he preferred less hazardous pets. His
other positions at Reptile Gardens have included tour guide, admissions, and sales manager.
Reptile Gardens has made a strong impact on Black Hills tourism and has won many awards, with many of them
recognizing the park as one of the best family-owned businesses in the state of South Dakota.
“Every day is different,” Brockelsby says of Reptile Gardens. “I get to meet people from all over the world, share
information about our amazing facility, promote events for our Guests, and work with family, all at the same time.”
Rockin’ Reptiles is open to all ages.
“This event is sure to entertain! What’s more fun than live animals in a museum?” says Troy Kilpatrick, Executive
Director of the Journey Museum and Learning Center.
Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $9 for students (ages 6-17), & half-off for members (includes museum
admission). Children 5 and under are free.

The Journey Museum and Learning Center was established in 1997 and is conveniently located in downtown
