Name: Carl J. Erickson Scholarship

The CARL J. ERICKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP is awarded each year to a student graduating from one of the
High Schools of Benton, Franklin or Walla Walla Counties who will use it to study at Washington State University.
Payments are made from the Scholarship Fund to the winning students in two separate checks covering one-half of the
total, each payment available at the beginning of each of the college semesters. This scholarship is renewable up to 3
years providing eligibility criteria are still met.
The amount available to the student selected in 2015 is $1,000.00.
Requirements:
1. Attendance in a Benton, Franklin or Walla Walla County high school for the student’s sophomore, junior, and senior
year.
2. Membership: Must have completed three years of 4-H or FFA work; and, under special conditions, FCCLA members.
3. Enrollment: Must have been enrolled in 4-H or FFA during the 2014-15 school year.
4. Scholarships shall be awarded to students who were seniors in one of the high schools of Benton, Franklin or Walla
Walla County, Washington, and who shall then be a resident of Benton, Franklin or Walla Walla County, Washington,
particular preference to be given to students who reside on farms in Benton, Franklin or Walla Walla County,
Washington, and whose family has received its principal income from farming during the preceding two year period.
Students shall also be planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences to attain
an agriculture related degree, at Washington State University, and one who might otherwise be unable to attend without
outside financial assistance.
5. Must have ranked in the upper one-third of the class for his/her junior and senior year.

Earth Island Institute established The Brower Youth Award for Environmental Leadership in 2000 to honor renowned
environmental advocate David Brower, who was quoted as saying “I love to see what young people can do, before
someone old tells them it’s impossible.” It is with this spirit that we recognize the outstanding leadership efforts of
young people who are working for the protection of our shared planet.

Youth environmental change leaders ages 13 to 22 (as of July 1, 2015) living in North America (including Mexico,

Each of the six recipients of the Brower Youth Awards will receive a $3,000 cash prize, a professionally produced short

North Star Council for Alcohol and Drug Education wishes to reward students who have made a commitment to being a
positive role model for other students by abstaining from the use of alcohol and drugs and encouraging others to make
that same commitment.

 Applicant must submit an essay of not more than 300 words supporting their reasons for not using alcohol or

Name: International Pacific Halibut Commission Merit Scholarship
Award: $2,000 renewable

The International Pacific Halibut Commission funds several Merit Scholarships to support university, technical college,
and other post-secondary education. The scholarship fund has been established to assist the further education of
Canadian and U.S. students connected to the halibut fishery and its industry. Generally, a single new scholarship valued
at $2,000 (US) per year is awarded. The scholarships are renewable annually for the normal four-year period of
undergraduate education, subject to maintenance of satisfactory academic performance. A committee of industry and
Commission representatives reviews applications and determines recipients based on academic qualifications, career
goals, and relationship to the halibut industry.
