KCCU/MCCU Merger Update
There’s been a flurry of merger activity at both corporate offices since the last update...
Missouri Corporate hosted four Town Hall meetings in midFebruary to review the merger plan with their members.
Many credit unions attended as well as Kansas Corporate
management. Attendees learned of the operational
changes they will experience due to the merger, reviewed
the proposed governance structure, and discussed the
merger plan. Missouri Corporate’s Special Membership
Meeting was held Friday, February 27, 2015, and their
membership, like our own, voted unanimously in favor of
the merger.
Kansas Corporate held our Special Membership Meeting,
Thursday, March 26th. KCCU also hosted two webinars
earlier in March to review the merger plan and answer
questions posed by members unable to attend the inperson meeting.
Kent Gleason, KCCU Interim CEO, provides a high level overview of
the merger plan to KCCU Special Membership Meeting attendees.
At the KCCU Special Membership Meeting, Kent Gleason,
Interim CEO, provided the audience which included staff, volunteers, MCCU management and credit union guests, a brief
overview of the merger plan and welcomed questions from the floor prior to the voting process. Votes were cast and the
results tallied by Jerry Tenbrink, President, J. Tenbrink & Associates. Again, all in favor.
Thank you to everyone that participated in the voting process - we appreciate your support of the pending merger. Next,
the NCUA board will address the merger and vote on its approval, which we anticipate occurring at their May 2015 meeting.
This time line will keep us on track for the proposed and expected merger date of July 1, 2015.
If you have questions about the merger, please contact Kent Gleason at 800.721.2677 ext. 107 or email
kentg@kansascorporate.org.

CUboardroom
CU b
ardroom
The complete online board communications tool.
I may be the last of a dying breed, the ‘old schoolers’. (I not only appreciate the lifestyle, I embrace it.) SmartSource Solutions,
LLC, however, is doing away with old school board communication methods through CUboardroom and trying to convert
me (and the rest of you, as I suspect I’m not really alone) to their team.
CUboardroom revolutionizes the way you communicate with your board, committees, management, staff, and really, any
other groups you designate, by centralizing official correspondence via a highly-secure, web-enabled communication channel.
“We spent a great deal of time and money in 2014, upgrading our hosting environment to provide greater stability, scalability and most importantly, security”, says Mike Pennell, SmartSource Solutions President/CEO. “While others fled to the
cloud, we specifically avoided it to employ security appliances such as a Web Application Firewall and Intrusion Detection
System. Security is foremost on our minds.”
CUboardroom provides the optimum environment for efficient, organized meetings. No more pouring over stacks of

Governmental Affairs
There’s never been a more important time to work to keep credit unions foremost in our lawmakers minds (it’s
a never ending quest) but every Spring our schedules fill with Unicam Jam’s, a Day at the Capitol, and Hill hikes.
This year, as in years past, Kansas Corporate supported our league
partners in pursuit of political support of credit union initiatives,
at home and on the hill.
Larry Eisenhauer and Circe Gleeson attended CUNA’s Governmental
Affairs Conference in Washington DC this past March. During
that time, Kansas Corporate helped sponsor league events that
included a reception for the Nebraska Credit Union League, lunch
for the Montana Credit Union Network and dinner for the Kansas
Credit Union Association. (We skipped breakfast this year, the
most important of all
meals - we’ll work
on that for next
year.) More credit union representatives than ever before, almost
five thousand strong, showed up to convey this message - the
credit union spirit is alive and well - and ask for the continued
support of our lawmakers.

Frontier Community CU CEO Retires
Folks came from near and far to congratulate Bill Hauber, President/CEO of Frontier Community Credit Union, on his
career and wish him well in his retirement. Bill retired the first week of April and the credit union board and staff hosted
a reception March 24, 2015, at the Frontier Community CU office,
in Leavenworth, KS. Bill, in addition to being the credit union CEO
for 25 years, served on the Kansas Corporate Board of Directors,
most recently as Chair but he also held the Vice Chairman office,
as well as serving on the KCCU Credit Committee. For 11 years,
Bill volunteered at KCCU. Eleven years - wow! We appreciate his
commitment to credit unions and Kansas Corporate!
Tonya Johnston, Circe Gleeson, Walter Thompson and Brady
McLeod attended the reception on behalf of KCCU to wish our
friend, volunteer, and colleague well in his retirement. (Bill was
sporting a really, really big smile.)
Buh-bye, Bill!

CU Business Group Hosts Montana Training
We nailed down the ‘when’ and the ‘where’ just as we promised in the January 2015 Corpor@te Link issue!
Kansas Corporate & CU Business Group are hosting ANALYZING BUSINESS LOANS in Helena, MT, at the Montana Credit
Union Network office, June 24-25, 2015.
This 2-day in-person education session offers an indepth training to credit union business services staff
and management to help them understand the critical
elements of business lending.
“I would send my senior loan officers to prepare them
for taking applications and talking to members.”
Attendees will walk away...
• With a better understanding of all the details behind business loan analysis and credit memorandums
• With increased confidence when talking to business owners
• With more effective screening of business loan opportunities
• With a better understanding of how to read and interpret business tax returns and financial statements
• With the ability to calculate debt service coverage and other key ratios
• With greater confidence in defending loan decisions to examiners
The biggest take-away - Your credit union staff will make a more significant contribution to the credit union’s business
services program - that says a lot.
“This was a fantastic class! I recommend this as a ‘must’
for any credit union doing business loans.”
Day One Curriculum includes Business Lending Rules
& Regulations, The Application Process, Underwriting,
Underwriting, and more Underwriting. Day Two starts
with Debt Service Coverage & Cash Flow, ends with
Loan Closing and Portfolio Management and the middle features Collateral Analysis and more.
Mike Smith, your instructor and CUBG VP/Senior Business Services Officer has over 22 years experience in commercial
banking, business consulting, and education. As a special treat, or bonus if you will, you can meet Mike at the MCUN Annual
Meeting in May! Stop by the KCCU Exhibitor booth to meet Mike (and see
the rest of us, too)!
Look for the CUBG Meeting Registration Packet to be emailed to credit
unions and posted on the KCCU website the third week of April 2015. If
you’d like to get all the training details in the interim, call Circe Gleeson,
KCCU Marketing Manager, at 800.721.2677 ext. 106 or email her at circeg@kansascorporate.org.

paper (wait, I love that). Your board,
committees, and other groups can
prepare for upcoming meetings by
accessing information from their
computer - at home, in the office, or on the road. There’s no escape!
“Decision makers are able to ask intelligent questions about discussion items
as the information is housed in CUboardroom long before the meeting,”
states Kory Kramer, LincOne Federal Credit Union Administrative Coordinator. Adds Jerry Barnett, LincOne FCU President/CEO, “It’s nice that you can
add documents literally hours before the meeting and send notification that
you did so. Board members still have time for a thorough review prior to the
start of the meeting.”
With news and events, document distribution, online voting AND online
forms, active users will be more engaged, interact more frequently and stay
better informed, leading to better decision making and greater accountability.
Even I, Ms. Old School herself, would like to take a peek at it. Demos and
more information are available by calling 866.932.3385 - SmartSource’s direct
line - or the tried and true, 800.721.2677 ext. 106.
