President’s Note
Phil Suter
Sometimes, in the
midst of our busy
lives, we forget to take
a minute to celebrate
all the things we
have to be grateful
for in Keene and the
Monadnock Region.
Here are just a few
things that come to
mind to celebrate this
month:

• Prime Roast on Main Street in Keene, and owner
Judy Rogers, for being named Woman Owned Small
Business of the Year, by the New Hampshire Small
Business Administration. This long-time Chamber
member not only serves great coffee, from all over the
world, it’s also one of the most popular places around
for people to meet and do business. Congrats to Judy
and the entire Prime Roast team!
• The Monadnock Travel Council, for bringing the
2015 New Hampshire Governor’s Conference on
Tourism to the Monadnock Region for the first time
in decades. Travel Councils around the state, along
with Chambers of Commerce, work to market New
Hampshire as an outstanding destination for travelers from all over the world. And, as we know, once
they find us, lots of them return, or even stay! Congrats to Heidi Hale and the entire Monadnock Travel
Council team!
• The Hannah Grimes Center (a long-time Chamber member), for completing a beautiful new second floor renovation of its Roxbury Street location in
Keene. The new space expands the number of spaces for incubator tenants in
the building, and adds a fantastic conference room, with a capacity of 70 persons. It will get a lot of use in the years to come. Congrats to the Mary Ann
Kristiansen and entire Hannah Grimes team!
• The Monadnock Branding Task Force, for creating a draft brand statement
for the Monadnock Region. It’s being presented to groups around the region,
so keep your eyes open for it! The task force was comprised of representatives
of regional Chambers of Commerce (Greater Keene Chamber, Hillsborough
Chamber, Jaffrey-Rindge Chamber, Peterborough Chamber), the Monadnock
Travel Council, Arts Alive, Keene State College, Team Jaffrey, and other stakeholders, led by Jamie Trowbridge of Yankee Publishing. Well done!
• Antioch University New England, on its 50th Anniversary (a long-time
Chamber member). From its early days in Putney, to the current vibrancy
seen at its Avon Street location in Keene, Antioch is a leader in thinking about
graduate school education in new and innovative ways. Its graduates are all
over the world, with many of them staying and making and impact in the
Monadnock Region. Congrats to Dr. Steve Jones and the entire AUNE team!
• Keene State College (a long-time Chamber member), and more than 1000
people receiving KSC degrees from KSC this Spring. There are tens of thousands of KSC around the world, and many contributing every day to make
the Monadnock region an even better place to visit, live, work, learn and play.
Congrats to KSC president Anne Huot, the entire KSC teaching and administrative team and, most of all, to all who are completing their studies!
• Finally, congrats to my golf clubs, for making the annual move from basement to car, where they will be poised for great things in the months ahead.
Happy Spring!

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy class has been busy over the
last fourteen weeks. Join them on Thursday, May 7th, at 6:00pm at
Bensonwood in Walpole, NH when the students will take the stage
to deliver a six-minute presentation of their business concept, financial statements and marketing plans to a panel of investors who
will then decide at what level to fund the start-up companies. Some
businesses may get over-funded, while others may be under-funded,
and some will get exactly what they ask for - it’s all based on the
merit of the idea and presentation.
The Saunders Scholars Semi-Finalist will also be announced at
the event. This is the business that will be selected by the judges to
fly - all expenses paid - to Phoenix, AZ to compete with other YEA!
students from across the country for a chance to go to Nationals.
At the National competition in Washington, DC, students will be
competing for college scholarships, start-up prize packages and an
opportunity to audition for ABC’s hit show Shark Tank!
