vol. 14, no. 5 |may 2015 free supplement F ifth grade students from Ms. Ileana Chand’s class at La Sierra Academy in Riverside, California, wrote about what they do to stay healthy. Ms. Chand reports her students are an all-star class! They believe in helping those around them, respecting each other’s ideas, and working together. Their classroom is an awesome team, and they have fun learning! Every Friday at school I go to running club to stay fit and healthy. I also stay healthy by washing my hands so that I won’t get sick. —Taytan Exercise helps make your bones stronger. Running helps by clearing stress. The most important lesson in being healthy is trusting in God! You can always count on Him if you’re stressed. Pray to God, and try to drink two liters of water every day.—Patrick I always wash my hands, drink lots of water, exercise, and get lots of sunlight. At my school we have PE and play hockey, volleyball, soccer, and kickball. I like to stay healthy by riding my bike, skateboarding, and roller-skating. I try to go outside in the sunlight for about 30 minutes a day to stay healthy! —Kylie A way to be healthy is by washing your hands. Exercise so you can be strong. If you exercise outside, you can also get vitamin D, which comes from the sun. Sleep is also good for the body. —Carlos After church on Sabbath my family and I go hiking. I also run a mile each day. We need sunlight because it is important to get vitamin D, and sunlight also strengthens our bones. I also stay healthy by eating lots of fruit and vegetables. —Yareli I like going outside to get fresh air. I also like to run and play outside at recess.—William Good nutrition helps you get energy. Exercise helps you control your weight and helps your blood have space to circulate. Exercise helps your bones get stronger and uses up energy so you can have a good sleep at night. I also try to get as much nutrition as I can and play soccer.—Rachel I run at my school. We have a running club on Friday mornings. I try to go outside, exercise, and drink a lot of water.—Maya I think water is important, and I recommend drinking eight cups of water a day. I always do running club every Friday, and running club is about getting exercise. Stay healthy and trust in God.—Gabriella I like to play basketball. It is a good sport to play, and I get good exercise from playing it. I think you can be healthy by eating nutritious foods and by getting exercise.—Christopher I eat healthy foods and I jog around my backyard. Sports are good exercise because you run, jump, and jog. Also, I go paintballing with my dad. This exercise is good for you because you have to hide and run, and you have to have good reflexes. Exercise and proper hygiene are important.—Conner I drink lots of water because water takes most of the toxins from our bodies. I also like to go outdoors. For example, taking a hike in fresh air is good because our bodies need fresh air. If you want 6 to be healthy, you should exercise, drink lots of water.— Shari I like to eat salads. I play outside with my dog to get exercise and sunshine. I don’t like to stay up late, so I make sure to get enough rest by sleeping early. I make sure that I get enough water for the day. And if something bad happens, I trust in God.—Joseph I eat fruits and vegetables, and I believe in God. Believing in God is healthy, and I love God. I also try to exercise. —Javier I like playing volleyball in my club every Sunday and Tuesday. It helps me stay fit and helps me get exercise. I also try to get proper hydration. Proper hydration is important because 70 percent of our body is made out of water.—Chelsea My family has a Wii. There is a board on the floor and you have to run in a race and play games. It’s fun! I also run with my pet every morning to stay healthy. I think you should try different things to stay healthy.—Sara Exercise is really important. On Sabbaths, I either hike or bike and that helps me be healthy. Rest helps you, and you should sleep for at least eight to 10 hours each night. Being healthy helps you be strong and helps you grow.—Landon I exercise because it helps your body. It also strengthens your bones and muscles. Nutrition is good because eating fruits and vegetables gives you energy.— Matthew I stay healthy by drinking water. I also try to eat healthy. I run in the running club, and I run in 5K or 10K races with my mom. I also try to get lots of rest, even though I’m busy! —Isabella I stay healthy by getting good nutrition. You should also drink water, because 70 percent of your body is water. Another important thing to do is to trust God. When you trust Him, it takes away your worry. —Naia I like to drink a lot of water. My family and I will go on runs or hikes, and I think by doing these things you can be healthy. I try to eat healthy and not eat junk food, because if you eat too much junk food it can hurt your body. I also try to go outside so I can get enough vitamin D.—Jarrod
