All "games" are based on having fun and will teach players how to play soccer and interact with others. The curriculum is based around the philosophy of maximizing the enjoyment of soccer and getting a soccer ball into a child's life. Begins: March 31. Session II Begins: May 20. 5 week Program Ages: 4-5 Wednesdays 3:30-4:30pm Fee: $60 Tiny Tigers - Location: American Cadre Karate This class is an opportunity for your child to develop the basic fundamentals for a successful future in the martial arts as well as life skills. This program will stress the importance of respect for others, provides social interaction, and assists with staying focused and gaining confidence in themselves. Instructors work with parents to provide a solid foundation for their children, not only in the dojo but at home and school as well. Students learn beginner physical skills such as balance and coordination, improved flexibility and proper exercise. Begins: April 9. Instructor: Reesie Cahinee 4-Week Program Ages: 3 – 6 Thursdays 4:30 – 5:00pm Fee: $30 2 School Age Art Club –Kids of all ages can come and use their creativity on a number of different projects and crafts. Each week there will be a main project. The student may work on that project or choose to explore other materials and make something to express their creativity. This club provides an opportunity for all participants, of all ages and at all levels, to explore painting, building, quilting, and drawing. All supplies are included. Begins: April 15. This fun Science Club is for curious and creative children. Every week a project will be conducted that is a hands on experience and can be taken home. Program includes all materials for experiments. Instructor: Michael Landolfi 5 Week Program Grades: K-6 Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm Fee: $60 “New” Irish Step Dancing Beginner-Irish step dance is a great sport for all. This class will teach the basic fundamentals of Irish Dancing, including the jig and reel steps. Dancers will develop gross motor skills, and listening skills while fostering friendships and traditions. Children should wear comfortable clothing such as leggings, sweatpants, and a t-shirt. Ballet shoes or sneakers are recommended. Begins: April 9. Children will get an opportunity to work together and learn how to create their own blogs, make videos using a green screen and design 3D models. Instructor: Shawn Avery 6 week program Grades: 4-6 Monday 3:00-4:30pm Fee: $50 “New” Survivor Workshop for Middle School Girls- Join a fun girl’s night out. This one night workshop will discuss survival strategies for middle school and beyond. Recent SLRHS graduates and current college students will share their tips and tricks for dealing with everything from drama to homework and stress. This interactive workshop includes great activities, resources and conversations such as: empowerment and leadership, thinking and team challenges, protecting yourself online and off, finding your passion, community service, healthy mind and body, and stress busters. Instructor: Julie Bonney Ages: 6 – 17 April 13, Monday 6:00-8:30pm Fee: $5 Starcreations Theater – Starcreations Theater presents the musical theater workshop “James and the Giant Peach”. This workshop will instruct students on theater, music, and dance and will culminate in a live performance at the end of the program. Through music and acting development, this workshop will help build student’s self-esteem and explore their creativity. Great roles for both male and female participants-no prior theater experience necessary. Final performances on Thursday and Friday, June 18 & 19, at 6 pm. Begins: April 7. Your child can participate in this fun program sponsored in part by the NFL league; 20 minute practice and then 40 minute games will be held once a week on Saturday's at Gray's Beach Park. Registration fee includes an NFL flag football jersey, which will be used as their uniform. Space is limited. Registration will close when program is full, or no later than March 27th. You must register and make payment on our website and also register on the NFL link below in order to be fully registered. Kids will enjoy game room activities, and partying down to DJ music. Due to safety concerns all children must have a ticket to enter the party. If a ticket has been lost, another will need to be purchased if there are any available. The number of children losing their tickets has increased and has made it unmanageable for the Recreation Staff the night of the parties. Tickets will not be sold on the Friday of the party, no exceptions. A booklet of tickets for the 3 parties will be sold for $25 and individual tickets will be sold for $10. As a reminder there are a limited number of tickets, and tickets will be sold until they are sold out. Parents are required to chaperone. This is necessary due to the requirement to have a certain number of adults per number of children. Therefore, due to the lack of volunteer parent chaperones for previous parties, when purchasing a ticket for your child you will be entered in to a lottery when purchasing a ticket. Parents will be picked from this lottery to chaperone the remaining three parties. Friday’s: April 10, May 1, and June 5 Kingston residents only. Grades: 5 and 6 only. All you need is your body and the desire to get fit and healthy. Your instructor Coach Kroon will take you through interval training by using just your body weight. This workout is quick with quick breaks and allows you to get the most out of the workout. Begins: April 16. Instructor: Erica McGhee 8 weeks Ages: 16- Adult Thursdays 6:00-6:45pm Fee: $75 6 Pickleball – Location: Reed Tennis Courts -Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. A paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game. Instructor: JKD Academy 6 weeks Tuesdays 6:30-7:30pm Fee: $45 Making Informed Financial Decisions for College-The cost of sending children has skyrocketed in the past decade, to numbers that now put student debt obligations second only to mortgage debt in the US. Learn about your Expected Family Contribution, and how there are two of them, one derived from the Federal Formula and one from the Institutional formula. Get a perspective from someone who has worked in a financial aid office of a private university and has counseled families on college affordability for nearly 25 years. This workshop is beneficial to families with students who are rising freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in high school. No charge, but registration is required. Instructor: JKD Academy 6 Weeks Saturdays 8:30-9:30am Fee: $40 Heartsaver First Aid-Location: Kingston Public Library- This is an American Heart Association basic certification course. Participants will be learn how to cope with basic emergencies, such as bleeding, shock, burns, fractures, head injuries and allergic reactions. The focus will be on the adult victim. CPR is not included in the class. Instructor: Barbara Augello Age: 12- Adult Monday, April 27th 6:30 -9:30pm Fee: $45 Pediatric First Aid-LocationKingston Public Library-This is an American Heart Association certification course. Participants will learn how to recognize and treat common emergencies in young children such as bleeding, shock, fractures, poisoning, burns, head injuries, spine injuries and fever. Remember to dress for the weather and bring your baskets, hunt will be held inside if inclement weather. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited so get your tickets early. Pre – Registration and tickets are required. This performance/event begins promptly at 10:00 am. Fee is per Family.
