THEATER CLASS Ages 18+
A senior theater class taught by a professional
through San Diego Community College Continuing
Education. Students are given scripts, pair up,
and do rehearsal homework. For beginning and
intermediate level actors.

PARENT AND ME SIGN LANGUAGE
Babies and toddlers can learn to communicate
with their parents before they can speak! Sign
language is an effective approach to introduce the
concept of language to children at an early stage
in development. Parent participation required.
PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT
The Brain Fitness Program Is a workout for the
brain featuring six computer-based exercises. The
exercises target roots of cognitive function that
improve processing speed, working and narrative
memory and sound discrimination, precision and
sequencing. Pre-registration is necessary call

COMPUTER BASICS Ages 18+
FREE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
The Family Resource Center collaborates with
local organizations to provide FREE educational
classes scheduled throughout the year. Call the
Family Resource Center at 619.269.1430 or e-mail
sdkroc.frc@usw.salvationarmy.org for current
information on dates, times, and locations.
Learn the basics of computers using Microsoft
Windows so you can search the internet, send and
receive e-mail, download photos and documents,
and use Skype to make free video calls. During
the class there will be frequent hands-on practice
and ample time for instructors to answer your
questions. Contact the Education Guest Service
Desk at (619)269-1540 for session dates. Onetime $12 materials fee.
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL)
The Family Resource Center offers ESL classes
in collaboration with Laubach Literacy. Free
childcare is provided for participants and
incentives are provided for course completion.

learning rhythm and coordination.
BALLET II Ages 4-6/ 7-12
Continue learning basic ballet steps and
terminology while improving poise, rhythm,
stretching and coordination through more

A more advanced version of Ballet II, students
continue learning ballet combinations, rhythm,

Beginning ballet and jazz taught through the use
of imagery and repetition. The dancer will learn
dance positions and terminology; while increasing
their coordination, strength and flexibility. Dancer
will also increase spatial awareness.
BALLET/TUMBLING COMBO Ages 3-5
Children will learn basic ballet steps. They will
learn to improve coordination, increase body
awareness, learn left and right, and have fun at the
same time.
TEEN BALLET/JAZZ TECHNIQUE
Ages 13-18
Students will learn both ballet and jazz
combinations, rhythm, terminology, and
choreography while working on core
strengthening and coordination.

Have fun learning techniques to improve natural
acting ability. This is a great introduction into the
world of singing, dancing and acting for stage,
and is a wonderful place to learn self-expression!
JAZZ I Ages 6-10
Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as
rhythmic accents, turns, jumps, and choreography.
Practice the pattern of center warm up, core
strengthening, center stretching, across the floor
turns, and jumps.
JAZZ II, III Ages 7-14
Dancers will learn jazz terminology as well as

read music? That’s OK, as long as you’re prepared

BRASS
BEGINNING BRASS Ages 7+
Children and adults can learn to play a brass
instrument like trumpet, baritone, or trombone.
A professional musician will teach learners the
basic concepts to producing a good tone and
reading music. Students may provide their own
instrument or rent an instrument from the Kroc
Music Department.
INTERMEDIATE BRASS Ages 7+
A professional instructor takes students beyond
the basic concepts to the essentials of playing in
a group. This is an excellent opportunity for those
students who have completed Beginning Band, or
for adults who want to relearn lost skills. Students
may provide their own instrument or rent an
instrument from the Kroc Music Department.
ADVANCED BRASS Ages 14+
Blow your horn in a British-style brass band! The
Salvation Army has more than 100 years of music
making in brass bands, and this group plays
swing, rock, marches, classical, and much more.
Participants must already know how to play a
brass instrument and read music.
PERCUSSION
PRIVATE DRUM SET LESSONS Ages 7+
Learn to play the latest tunes, big fills, and a
variety of styles; taught by a renowned local rock
drummer.

fun-filled art class for your favorite Kroc Center
tots! Each class will feature a short story time
and a new art project designed to help children
explore their creativity, learn basic fundamentals
of art, and develop fine motor skills. Classes
start February 3rd.

Explore colors, painting techniques and

TEEN/ADULT PHOTOSHOP
Ages 13-18
Students learn the basics of Photoshop, a
professional tool for photo editing and graphic
design, and digital photography.
FAMILY CERAMICS
Ages 8+
An introduction to ceramic materials and
processes. Students will learn how to make
figurative sculptures, molds, work with the
potter’s wheel, glazing techniques, and fire clay
items.
Session Fee:$90/members $110/guests
MY SHAPES MAKE ART Ages 5-8
Learn the basic essentials of art by using
well-known shapes to create each piece with
painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques.
Each session has a different theme.
Session Fee: $60 Members / $80 Guests
Family Arts & Literacy Nights
are held six evenings per year
and include performances by a
Young Audiences artist, an art
project for the entire family to
enjoy, and new book for each
child. Events are on Thursday
evenings from 6:30-8 pm
