Lexington Youth Science Summit Saturday, June 27 CONFIRMATION PACKET Thank you for participating in the Lexington Youth Science Summit. This confirmation packet contains important information to help your student prepare for this opportunity, as well as policies and procedures that ensure a quality program for everyone. Please review this information carefully. If any questions or concerns arise, contact Kentucky Science Center. Event Details Date: Saturday, June 27, 2015 Location: Lexmark Inc. 740 W. New Circle Road Lexington, KY 40550 Hours: Youth Science Summit 8:40 AM- 4:30 PM Drop Off 8:00 AM- 8:40AM Pick Up 4:30 PM Parking: Enter through Lexmark Main Entrance from New Circle Road, 740 W. New Circle Road, Lexington, KY 40550 Check-In: Check- in will take place between 8:00-8:40 AM at Lexmark Inc. The 1st session will begin promptly at 8:40 AM. Student participants are asked to bring this CONFIRMATION LETTER and a completed HEALTH AND PERMISSION FORM with them. Students will not be admitted to the Youth Science Summit without turning in the completed Health and Permission Form at checkin. Participants will receive a wristband, name tag and event program at check-in. Wristbands and name tags must be left on for the duration of the day for access to the Youth Science Summit. Drop-off: Parents/Guardians can drop off their student participants attending the Youth Science off at the main entrance of Lexmark International, Inc. Students will not be admitted to the Youth Science Summit without turning in the completed Health and Permission Form at check-in. Check-out: Participants will receive their Youth Science Summit T-shirt and goodie bags upon check-out and will also have the opportunity to enter to win a family 4 pack of exhibit passes to Kentucky Science Center in Louisville, KY. Parents and Guardians may sign a waiver allowing students to transport themselves to and from the event; however all student participants must stop by the check-out location prior to leaving for the day to sign- out. Pick-up: The Youth Science Summit officially ends at 4:30 pm. All Middle School participants are required to be signed out by a parent or guardian (proof of ID will be required at time of check out). High School students may sign themselves out of the program if they have a wavier signed by their parent or guardian at the time of check in. Remember, all participants need to stop by the check-out counter to sign out for the day. Meals: A light breakfast (granola bars, bagels and cream cheese, fruit, cereal bars, juice, milk) will be available for participants from 8:00 AM -8:35 AM. Lunch will be provided for all participants and will take place between 12:00 -1:00 PM. Water and soft drinks will also be available. *We ask that participants please bring extra cash with them if they would like to purchase additional food items from vending machines. Attire: Causal dress code. Closed toed shoes are recommended for lab participation. The below provides the program timeline and descriptions of each afternoon breakout. Participants are asked to review this information prior to arriving on Saturday, June 27. Please note the session times listed below are approximate and may changed based on number of participants. A final schedule will be issued to you when you sign in. Breakout Session Descriptions (subject to change) Lab Offerings: Hands-on lab sessions ranging from 30 to 60 minutes. Labs are presented by Bluegrassregion partners or Lexmark. Reverse Science Fair: A spin on the traditional Science Fair, youth will have an opportunity to survey research from throughout the region and discuss with a variety of STEM professionals. Speed Mentoring: Students will have the opportunity to sit down with professionals from an array of science disciplines to discuss their careers, and ask questions about colleges, programs of study, and get helpful hints about taking the next step toward their professional careers.
