ISTITUTO DI NEUROSCIENZE Pisa Padova Milano Cagliari Sede di Pisa Lunedì 4 maggio 2015 - ore 16:00 presso l’aula seminari dell’Istituto di Neuroscienze del CNR Area della Ricerca di Pisa – Ingresso 22, piano II Dr. Vincenzo Marra Department of Cell Physiology and Pharmacology University of Leicester, UK terrà un seminario dal titolo: Strategic Positioning of Synaptic Vesicles Abstract: Connections in the brain rely on action potential-driven release of neurotransmitter-filled vesicles at specialised sites called active zones. Structural organization of synapses is known to be important for normal brain function and its disruption is associated to a number of clinical conditions. Here, I will describe how we can study functional synaptic vesicles at the ultrastructural level in their native cytoarchitecture and what we can say about their position within and between presynaptic terminals. I will conclude introducing a form of spatially-limited short-term plasticity and why the position of active zones as well as their activation pattern is important for the study of network activity.
