Langsdale Library, the Helen P. Denit Honors Program, and the

Langsdale Library, the Helen P. Denit Honors Program, and the Office of the Provost are again sponsoring an
undergraduate symposium entitled Inspired Discoveries on May 1, 2015 in the Learning Center Town Hall and lobby. This
symposium, now in its sixth year, is part of an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage undergraduate research and
other academic achievements.
The day will consist of opening remarks from President Kurt Schmoke and Provost Joseph S. Wood, student
presentations, and a luncheon with an alumnus keynote speaker(s). Student presentations may be in the form of poster
sessions, exhibits, panel presentations or presented papers. Projects may include original research conducted
individually or as a team or creative works such as video games or creative writing pieces.
The sponsoring committee is soliciting applications for student projects submitted either by the student or advising
faculty member. Student applications must be accompanied by a faculty letter of recommendation. Selected students
should be prepared to attend the full-day symposium; we strongly encourage faculty advisors to attend and support
their students.
Below is the application form for students or faculty to complete. Applications are due by April 10, 2015. The
sponsoring committee in conjunction with a group of faculty advisors will review and select participants for the
symposium. The best project in both areas of research and creative works will receive up to a $500 scholarship and
participants’ work will be featured in an online campus publication.
We hope that you will consider submitting a project you have completed (or will complete this semester). Capstone or
independent study projects (from fall or spring semesters) as well as honors thesis work make strong submissions. For
more information, see the Inspired Discoveries website.
