AUDITION SCENE- Please learn the role of Charlie: START: CHARLOTTE (CHARLIE) is sitting on her bed with her laptop, video conferencing with two of her friends. CHARLIE: I’m pretty obsessed with birth order right now. Everyone knows the stereotypes: that the older sibling is responsible, the youngest is the baby, and the middle child is ignored. But I’ve researched this online and birth order can actually tell you so much about your personality. HANNAH: Whoa, like astrology? CHARLIE: (Rolls eyes) Sort of. So like, I have two older sisters (two COOL older sisters) and I definitely have “youngest child syndrome” where I always want to be allowed to do what my sisters are doing. (They think I get away with too much, but that’s their own damage.) So think about it: when I was seven I was hanging out with my thirteen-year-old sister and her friends, listening to their music, watching the same movies. I was basically a teenager, at seven! How mind blowing is that? HANNAH: You are so ahead of your time. CHARLIE: Being the youngest can be tough, though. I’ve had to survive off hand-me-down clothing, which means I never get to shop for myself, which means keeping up with trends is pretty impossible. GRACE: But Charlie, you’re the most stylish person we know. Fashion is your thing. CHARLIE: I’m probably overcompensating. As the youngest, I’ve really had to go out of my way to prove my individuality. That’s why I’m a fashion rule-breaker. GRACE: Speaking of rule breakers, I’m looking at a celebrity birth order website that says Copernicus was a youngest child. CHARLIE: Yup. So is Ariana Grande. END.
