In an effort to reduce wait times, the Test Centre hours have been extended, additional support from Learning Centre support staff has been recruited and waiting rooms have been reserved at Newnham and Seneca@York to manage overflow. Visiting Your Campus Test Centre During Exam Week Seneca Test Centres services a high volume of students during exam week. Students should prepare for their visit to the Test Centre by: • • • • • confirming their eligibility to take an exam in the Test Centre a week prior to their examination date with their instructor arriving at least a half-hour prior to their scheduled examination recording their instructor’s last name, their course code and the start time of their exam bringing their Seneca or Government issued photo ID bringing all permitted aids necessary to write their exam Attention Faculty: The Online Faculty Exam Submission service is monitored daily Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm. Online submissions must be sent a minimum 24 hrs prior to the write date. Tests and exams to be written within 24 hours can only be submitted to the Test Centre in person. Tests and exams to be written on Mondays need to be submitted by 8pm on the previous Thursday. Late submissions risk delays in processing and may result in a student being unable to write. The collection is accessible via Seneca’s library search and access will be unlimited, regardless of the number of concurrent users across the colleges. This core collection has: • 168000+ titles • 8000+ recently published titles (2013/2014) • subject coverage of both university disciplines and vocational program topics • 2000+ French language titles • publishers include trade, university presses, and professional associations The consortium group will continue to evaluate and expand the collection. 6 Tips for Searching Library Resources Seneca’s library search looks like a Google search, but searches academic resources instead of websites. Here are some tips to improve your searching. 1. By default, all words in a search are combined with the ‘AND’ operator. To get more results use the ‘OR’ operator in capitals (e.g. microcircuits OR nanocircuits). 2. “Best Bets” are search shortcuts designed for popular library resources and tools. Just type in your best guess and follow the links to specific library subject guides, databases, FAQs and more. “Best Bets” appear above the results list with the arrow icon. 3. When looking for a specific article, it’s better to use the Advanced Search option or to search from the Journal Title Finder (enter the best bet terms: “journal” or “journal title” or “journal title finder” to get to the tool). 4. You can find music by typing in a topic, then limiting to Content Type > Music Recording. These recording are pulled from our “Music Online” database (Alexander Street Press). Collections include American Song, Classical Music, Contemporary World Music, Jazz, and Smithsonian Global Sound. 5. Searches can also be limited to content type for streaming videos. If you are looking for a particular title you can also try searching the <title of streaming video> + streaming video. 6. To find a textbook, enter the course code or title, and then limit with one of the following filters: Refine Your Search > Library Catalogue (incl. Textbooks) or Library Location > [your campus] Textbooks.
