Earth Month Celebration!
Merrill W. Linn Land & Waterways
Conservancy and its subsidiary,
Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance,
present the 12th annual Caring
for Communities: Earth
Month Celebration—a series of
free, family-oriented events
throughout April into May, aimed
at connecting both young and old
with the natural environment of
our area. In keeping with our
Linking Landscapes Initiative and
recognizing the role of individual
and community gardens in
providing native wildlife habitats,
our 2015 theme is “My Backyard!”
For events at the Dale/Engle/Walker
property, 1471 Strawbridge Road, drive west
1.7 miles on Route 192 from Lewisburg.
Look for brown PennDOT sign. Turn right
onto Strawbridge Road. Continue to the
parking area just before crossing Buffalo
Creek.

Caring for Communities: An Earth Month Celebration!

Caring for Communities’ My Backyard! theme
and our Linking Landscapes Initiative. Hosted by
Mark Lawrence as a WKOK Sunrise segment.
7 pm: Movie at the Campus Theatre in
Lewisburg. Divide in Concord. Jean Hill
tried to rid the town of Concord, MA of
single-serve plastic bottles of water,
contending with strong opposition from
local merchants and the bottled water
industry. Sponsored by the Bucknell
Center for Sustainability and the
Environment as part of its Green Screens
series. $2 admission.
Saturday, April 4
10 am: Presentation on Monarch Butterflies At
the PPL Montour Environmental Education
Center near Washingtonville (700 Preserve Rd.,
Danville). Jon Beam, former senior naturalist at
PPL Montour Preserve and president of the
North American Butterfly Association-Central
Susquehanna Valley, talks about monarchs and
how to attract them to your garden.
Glacier Pools Preserve
diverse mixture of deciduous and evergreen tree
species. The vernal pools (at least 18) provide
habitat for a variety of amphibians. The
property's High Field trail offers a spectacular
view to the north. The hike will be led by owner

10 am: Caring for Communities Bicycle Ride will
follow the Conservancy’s Rural Routes and the
new Buffalo Valley Rail Trail. Led by bike
enthusiast Tom Gibson. Routes will be available
for two levels of experience, 15 miles and 30
miles. Park at the Dale/Engle/Walker House and
meet at the Dale’s Ridge Trail parking lot.
Sunday, April 12
1 pm: Hike at Glacier Pools Preserve in
Lycoming County. 757 Pine Tree Rd, Hughesville,
PA 17737. Glacier Pools Preserve is a 273-acre
island of mature trees, wildflower meadows, and
vernal pools. The property contains a very

Facilities. We’ll see the new LEED-certified
Academic West building, including its green roof,
and the green roof on the Dana Engineering
Building. Led by Bucknell officials and
professors. Meet at the front entrance to
Academic West, on the north side of the
building.
Friday, April 24
It’s Arbor Day! Join the Lewisburg Shade Tree
Commission sometime between April 14 and 30
in planting trees in Lewisburg Area Recreational
Park and Hunt Park to replace ash trees
destroyed by the emerald ash borer. For final

approaches.
Sunday, April 26
9 am - 6:00 pm: Plein Air Art
Event. Artists of all ages are
invited to three Linn
Conservancy conservation
easement sites to create plein
air artwork. From 9 am to 4 pm
they will capture the beauty of
the Dale/Engle/Walker property
and Dale’s Ridge, the Koons
Trail property in Mifflinburg and
Jane Albin
the Shamokin Mountain Trail site
in Union Twp. Artists may choose
to begin the day at 9 am with an
optional workshop led by award-winning artist
Jane Albin at the Dale/Engle/Walker House.
Separate registration is required for the
workshop. A reception, open to all, will also be
held at the property at 4 pm. Artwork will be
displayed at The Public Library for Union County
