LOS MOLINOS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Student Success Specialist POSITION: Student Success Specialist. The successful candidate will assist in motivating students to remain in school, assist the District in developing a dropout prevention plan, and take part in reducing problems which interfere with a student’s school adjustment and progress. The Student Support Specialist will bind with the school and the community in a mutually sustaining partnership to meet the needs of the students who are in at risk situations, assist with coordinating the resources and services of the whole school and the community in implementing a dropout prevention effort; and perform related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Education: BA degree in Social Work or related field and willingness to participate in professional growth activities. Experience: A person possessing education, training in Social Services or related field plus work experience in the area of Social Work or Education. Knowledge: Social welfare and child development; law and policies regulating school attendance; techniques and methods of interacting with individuals and groups of students and adults; knowledge of public and private community service agencies; District policies, rules and regulations; problems in the community affecting a student’s performance and/or attendance in school; special needs and characteristics of high-risk students. Ability To: Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents, students, school staff and community organizations; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; prepare and maintain accurate and up-todate records, files, histories and other documentation of all services rendered; understand and follow oral and written instructions and confidentiality; must have the ability to speak, read, and write English in a job related setting. Bilingual skills preferred. Must meet NCLB requirements. Current TB Testing and fingerprinting required. POSITION DESCRIPTIONS: Assist in early identification of students at-risk Assist in monitoring attendance Facilitate Student Study Team meetings Crisis response and intervention Assist in home visits. Contact parents and community agency personnel to obtain background information to help understand problems. Facilitate support groups for students Deliver lessons on topics such as bullying prevention to groups of students Assist in providing supplemental and auxiliary services to at risk students Work with at risk students in small group or individual tutoring in literacy, basic skills development and career oriented curriculum content Performs all other duties as assigned that reasonably relates to regularly assigned duties in relation to those fixed and prescribed duties developed by the Governing Board to the individual employee’s job classification Receive direction concerning needs from site administrators. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. STARTING SALARY: $17.60 per hour minimum. Initial placement on the salary schedule may be higher, depending upon past experience.
